Ok, where can I get insurance reasonable that let's me drive more than 2500 miles a year? I've tried Hagerty, Grundy, and JC Taylor, and they all say it can only be driven in parades or club events... I've finally got some insurance through State Farm, but it's high (even though I've got a good record), but I'm still worried about how much they'll cover it for. They just took some pictures and said they'd just go off of that. This is a stock little 6 cyl. '68 base model that my future wife tools around in and I drive. Future plans call for rims and tires and a small block when the 6 finally gives up, but that's about it cause it's a fun little driver... Any ideas on a good place to get insurance?

Use the search function for "insurance". You will find many posts on this subject. Hagerty allows you to drive any number of miles and not just parades. I have them for my car.

You need to check back with Hagerty. Really the only major restriction with them is you need to have another car as your daily driver. You cannot use your classic for back and forth to work. They will ask you to estimate your miles when you sign up...but do you think they are going to check up on that?? Nah... I have had them for two years now and their rates are very good as by the quote indicated above. I suspect if you get an accident on your way to work however, you will be up the poverbial creek without a paddle. So if you are going to use your car for shows, cruizes, parades, and just plain old cuizing, I think it is hard to beat Hagerty. I have all three of my classics with them.

Hutch,

I have a 68 conv. 327 210hp plane Jane. I went to State Farm. Had to have it appraised and took pictures. I have no restrictions, they insured it for $16,000. I pay $97.00 every six months. I wasn't convinced that they would give me $16,000 if it was totalled, so they sent me a seperate letter stating that. I also have 2 other cars insured with them. I didn't think $200 a year for unlimited driving was too bad.

H-dog,

I've had State Farm for many years for my business vehicles. My agent told me that they have stated value only, not agreed value. Stated value insures the car for say $16,000 and in case of a total loss they will pay UP TO $16,000; however, according to him they MAY depreciate the car or look up similar cars and if they're going for less money, that's what you get. Agreed value is the only one that will pay what you are insured for in a total loss.

I use Grundy for a 72 Camaro and a Cobra replica; unlimited mileage, no restrictions , just can't be your only daily driver car.
