Hi, my car runs great while driving, but the engine shakes at idle. I looked down into the Quadrajet and notice that at idle gas is dripping in the carberator. By not burning the fuel while it is idleing make it have a rough idle ?? If so, why do carbs have inner leaks ?? Are the floats to high or no good maybe ?? Thanks for any help, Jim

Does the car have any black smoke coming out the exhaust at idle? If so the carb could causing a flooded condition and is only bad enough to be noticed at idle when the engine does not demand that much fuel. If you don't notice any black smoke, you probably have a vacuume leak. At idle place your hand over the primary barrels slowly blocking off airflow. If the engine smoothes up you've got a vacuume leak. Go around the carb base and intake with some carb cleaner and listen for a change in the way the engine runs. Isolate the area when you hear a change and you've found your vacuume leak. Check all vac. hoses for splits and cracks. Be carefull around ignition components as they may catch the carb cleaner on fire. To be safe have an extinguisher handy.

grab a screwdriver and tighten up all the screws on the carb body. you'd be amazed at how loose they can be. if that don't work, get a rebuild kit and have fun tearing it down and putting it back together, making sure float level is correct...they really aren't that bad to do, except for the choke linkage.i hope they executed whoever created that setup.
