I have a 73 Camaro with a 305 V-8, 200 R tranny. i recently put the new tranny in (just temperary of course) but there is a ticking sound. I thought it was the lifters so we tightened them up but its still there. I put it on the lift at work and its coming from right next to the flex plate and torqe converter, but i cant figure out exactly what it is. anyone have any ideas what it could be??? help please it's very annoying

A cracked Flexplate and or loose converter bolts will make a ticking sound.

Check the cap on your distributor. A buddy's car was making a ticking that sounded like a lifter, but we couldn't isolate it to either bank. Rev the motor and the frequency increased. Sounded a lot like a lifter not pumping up.
Turns out the cap was loosened to lower the motor when putting in a new tranny and they forgot to secure it when finished. The cap was just loose enough for the rotor to barely make contact with the cap. tick tick tick
