The temp sensor tells the computer what the temp is and the program in the computer turns the fan on.HTH ------------------ Leo Paugh MCC #017 www.clark.net/pub/chevelle/mcc.htm (http://www.clark.net/pub/chevelle/mcc.htm) There are no strangers here, only friends you haven't met. SIMON Nov 17th, 00, 08:21 PM Most 3rd gen. Camaros have what is called a "fan switch" located in the engine bay (consult a Haynes manual for exact location). This basically monitors coolant temp. via the temp sensor located in the manifold and then triggers the fan to come on. TPI vehicles have two fans. One is regulated by the switch the other by the ECM. In order to get both fans to come on in a TPI vehicle prior to the factory setting of 220F, you will need both a replacement fan switch as well as an upgraded chip. Both HyperTech, and JET (Jones Engineering Technologies) offer a fan switch and replacement chips. Some packages come with both. I know Summit and PAW carry the above listed manufacturers. Also, if you are changing out your thermostat, don't use one rated less than 170, or the coolant won't have enough time in the radiator to sufficiently cool. SIMON Nov 25th, 00, 09:30 PM Correction, the temp sensor for the fanswitch is in the cylinder head between plugs 6-8. I just swapped mine out this weekend. The Hypertech unit is working quite well. I am very satisfied with it. Although now with winter upon us the heat of course doesn't get as hot. Oh well...priorities. |
