OK this may or may not be a problem. My wife has always owned 3rd Gen. Camaros and states that this is just what they do.

When starting up our '92 RS for the first time of the day the breaks are >> Extreemley << touchy. I mean, there is no way of coming neer the pedal without the enitre car lurching to a stop. This problem quickly goes away once we are on the road, but getting out of the driveway is a nightmare. This is not weather dependent, every time it happens irregardless.

Any ideas? Is this just a common trait of the Camaros?

Does the car sit outside during the evenings? I have had experience with rotors "surface rusting" during the eventing when dew forms on the metal surface.

When you apply the brakes the first few times, watch out! The pads really grab that rusty surface...

Yes, unfortunatly we have only a carport and the city won't let us enclose it. I will have to check that out. If I get ambitious I might pull one apart today. Thank you!

My Blazer is the same way. As soon as it starts to get more humid outside, whether it rains or not, the brakes are real touchy for a few minutes, then it goes away till the next morning. It's worse on days when there's dew on the windows first thing in the morning.

Is there any way to prevent this from occuring?

You don't have to tear it apart to check. Just lay down and feel around on the rotor. If it isn't smooth as glass it's surface rust. Most mags you can just look thru the little holes.

Mags.

I haven't heard that term for years! Did they really used to make them out of magnesium?
