I have a 73 camaro that at one time ran great. It has sat garaged for about 4 years having been started 2-3 times during that period. Now after putting in a carb kit, coil, points, condensor and new battery I cant get it to start. Starter is turning motor but no sign of it trying to kick in. I know gas is flowing into carb. I tried to check spark from coil but do not see any. Other than checking wiring leading to coil does anyone have any other suggestions? Also, Is there a way to check if timing chain is broken without dismanteling and removing cover? Thanks for any help.

Pull a valve cover and watch the rockers as the motor is cranking. If they move, the chain is not broken.

Even quicker...pull the distributor cap and see if the rotor turns when you crank the motor.

Check the compression.

double check your point gap. change your coil/borrow one that you know works. i would seriously doubt your timing chain breaking.

Yea, that new gas will really make it spark.

Thanks for all your help. I have a feeling I know where I dropped the ball. Hopefully it will be simple as setting the points gap.
