The tag on my 69 has a small dent in it but that almost looks like cheap plastic that has warped in the sun.

Looks like somebody beat the crap out of the tag pulling the motor (or putting one in). The rivets don't look right to me- maybe the tag got knocked off and re-attached (or the tag is not original to this car)?

The tag doesn't look too bad to me other than the big dent in it. Not sure someone would go to the trouble of swapping out a tag on nothing more than a shell. Looks like the body was cut for tubs and the front subframe looks seriously tweaked.

Sometimes a tag will warp from being sandblasted too.

Had the same thing happen to mine after having
the firewall sand blasted even had tape on it

I agree, it looks original and quite possibly sand blasted at one time. Look at the pitting above the plate. Thats indicative of it being rusty in the past and there is no rust showing because it was blasted.

Might make a good race car project but thats about it! IMHO of course.

Hmmm ?? Tag looks OK. Possible "rust explosion" underneath tag caused the distortion !!??
