I have decoded all the Vin and Cowl #s except one on the last line X090
Tag is as follows
ST 69 12437 LOS146888 BDY
TR 713 72 E PNT
0D X090
VIN# 124379L505839
I am trying to determine whether or not this particular car is a Z28. Since it was built in LA, I have been told that it makes it more difficult. # of the previous owners (back to 81' so far) have stated that it was a real Z28. It was bought in LA and early in it's life, moved to Phoenix where it spent most of the time at Firebird raceway. The original 302dz was blown, and the 3rd owner back said he could have had the original blown motor, but back then "I didn't see a need for it" and has had a couple of different SB motors. It currently has a fresh ZZ3. It has a 12bolt, M-22, console w/gauges, and an in dash tach that RL @6k/ 7k max. It also has a 4 leaf rear suspension and power front disc. Sorry to ramble, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

X090 is just a la work order and has not been decoded, but probably means very little.
your 0D is probably 10D, a oct. 4th week car. should of had the flat hood (no cowl scoop avail.) this early. it's probably going to be real hard to prove, but it looks like all the parts are right for a true z. if it's a la car be sure and enter in mccorry's
base.---> www.mindspring.com/~mccorry (http://www.mindspring.com/~mccorry)
mine's a 12C LA car.

My 69 Z is the same as yours, (early Los. built car), and I found the build sheet, (actually chassis broadcast sheet), on top of the gas tank. You might want to drop the tank down and check, since a lot of Los. cars had them. Mine was on the drivers side, and a little towards the front, glued to the top of the tank, with some sort of black glue/sealer. Also, if you find it there, be very carefull removing it! Mine was pretty dang brittle.

Peace69Z/28, good call. i forgot to bring that up. what was left of mine was there in the same spot, but it was unreadable. good luck Jubal!

Post the #'s off of the trans and rearend. They will help prove what the car was. See www.camaros.org (http://www.camaros.org) under 'Decoding' for the locations.
How do you know it's a M22?

I hope your broadcast sheet is there, Jubal... Many LA cars have their sheets still. My car had no sheet and showed no evidence of it ever being there (no glue, etc.).

It seems that maybe only certain shifts or workers put the sheets on the tank. From my limited experience...I would guess that 7/8 of 10 LA cars, esp. the early builds, have their build sheet on the tank.

Let us know what you find....and thanks for the info...

Thanks for all the input guys! I dropped the tank this morning and there were remnants of it, but completely unreadable. I would guess that about 40% of the page was there and in several pieces. It was completely unusable! I will try to get the numbers off the rear-end and tranny tomorrow. Since it was used at the dragstrip early in it's life, I would be surprised if they were the original. I was told by the previous owner that the trannyt is an M-22 and the rear is a 4:10.
Thanks again..

Jubal

If it is an M-22....you should hear the infamous high pitched whining out of the gearbox. Fun at first....but it gets REALLY old! he he.

Hi All! The tranny is a 1970 M-21. The number is P0C18B, which I guess is a Muncie, built March 18, 70. I'll look for the axle codes tomorrow. I did find a D99 on the rear drives side of the housing. is that a date code of 4/9/69?
Thanx..

The number on the axle that you are looking for is stamped into the passenger side axle tube 1/2 way between the center section and the brake backing plate. It will be stamped into the front facing side of the tube (towards the motor).

Should be something like BV1014GE.....

Hi Again.. I found the numbers on the axle. They are BU0513G1 with E on the bottom. What information does this provide?
Thanx..

BU0513G1 with E on the bottom:

BU - 1968-69 3.73:1 Positraction
0513 - Assembled May 13th (not sure if '68 or '69)
G1 - Detroit Gear and Axle - 1st shift
E - Eaton Positraction carrier

I would guess that this isn't the original Rear from you car...but you never know. I have documented cases of Oct' 68 built cars (like yours) with rears assembled in June '68.

Hope this helps.....

Here goes
BU=3.73:1 with posi
0513=May 13 build date
G=Detroit gear & axle plant

you mentioned above that previous owner said rear end was 4.10 BV is correct code for 4.10 ratio might want to double check the code.

too slow mccorry beat me to it.
