Here's a photo of the POP and Trim Tag on an original Hugger Orange / Black Houndstooth X55 SS I own. Drivetrain is still in tact.

Hopefully someone from CRG will add this into the DB.

Dan,

You're welcome. More to come in a few days.. I have two Pace Cars with POPs also (and a few with out smile.gif ).

Jonesy,

Car is disassembled, and currently getting a full floor. It is in realatively good shape though. Almost all of the parts are there.

Hi Paul -

At one time I had 12. I needed the cash for an investment and sold 6 of them a few months back...they went to a guy in Tennessee.. I still have 6 left.

The remaining cars (about 17 others) are coupes.

For a grand total of 23 I think. Some are parts cars, some are decent....

Just been collecting / selling / restoring ... etc. It's a living....and it's almost too fun.

Wow twelve!! Six is even a bunch!!

I'm glad that you're having fun, isn't that what it's all about anyway?

Yeah, it is. I recently closed down a very stressful business that I was running. We were doing cable tv, telephone, internet and satellite installations. It was killing me. The money was great, but the stress was taking it's toll. Woke up one morning and said to the wife "We're closing down the cable business and I'm gonna restore cars!"... a few months later...poof!! Best move I ever made. The money isn't as good, and the work is harder...but no stress. The wife and I get along so much better now, and I really love what I do.

Bill,

I'd just like to say that you are the type of person That I admire. Your choose the job YOU like over the better paying job. I am still young but am an aspiring restorer myself and to see others do it and what sounds like do it well is very ecouraging. On another note, It sounds like you have quite a collection, are any being sold unrestored? I "was" in the market for a pacer but was told they would be to expensive and not worth persuing. What type of range could I expect to be paying for one unrestored?

Thanks

69_SS_RS,

Thanks for the nice compliment. I had a long day today, and it was nice to read. I have some unrestored stuff (for sale) but I don't want to violate Team Camaro's rules about advertising. I'll e-mail you my phone number and you can give me a call. Check your e-mail.

Just curious, can anyone explain the duplication of the paint code on the trim tag? I noticed yours is duplicated as is mine on my 1969. What's the significance of this? Anything? Or nothing?

Thanks!

David,
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, the PNT code is broken down into 'lower' color then 'upper' color.

So if the entire car was all one color on the top as well as the lower half, they duplicated the PNT number twice. If it came with a vinyl top, it would be stamped with the lower half of the cars color, and then the code for whichever color vinyl top was on it.

Check out the cowl tag and other code break-down at The Camaro Research Group's web site: http://www.camaros.org/index.shtml

David,
Joe got it right. I'll add that convertibles are treated the same as vinyl tops.

What's your car? Don't recall many other 69's around town......

69-Z11PACER's car and mine are kinda close. Both are 05C's.

His block is ten days later than mine, and his trim tag body # is 2,000 after mine. However, his VIN is a little less than 1,000 BEFORE mine.

It doesn't look like trim tags correspond with VIN's. It would seem logical that if my VIN is later than his VIN, then my trim tag body # would be, as well.

Body number = order number after it was accepted by GM as being correct in 69. They jump all over the place becasue of how the cars were actually scheduled to be built.

Joe is correct. On a coupe, the first number is the lower body paint code and the second one is the upper. If the car had a vinyl top the second color code would be different than the first one. No vinyl top, same number for both. -- / -- meant special paint.

Kurt-
LeMans Blue SS with Black stripes.
I know...don't think I've seen but one other in the area. It was in AA, Orange and sounded like it had a 502. It was a drag car...tubbed with a full cage.
What do you have?

hwystarjoe has it correct.

first number is the lower body color
second number is the upper body color
So 72 72 means its all one color
71 10 means its a two tone paint. lower is orange and the top is painted white
- - means a non standard paint color for that model, not regular production option (RPO). It could be any color under the rainbow but thats getting into a another topic.

If the second number is a letter, then its the convertible or vinyl top color.

This is the same for all GM cars.
