the date code on the engine reads V II 6 MT..
havent been able to decode this. it also has the part. vin # stamped on the block pad.
the two II's is what throwing me off. from what i have read here and in other camaro sites and sources the # should be longer.
i was hoping you guys could help me out here. thanks for any insight!!!!

Hi,
This sounds like a case of using an "I" for a "1". I have heard of this before. You can't shut down the line just because you can't stamp a number on! They might have dropped a "0" also. This date code looks close to mine. Could you post the rest of your cars data (trim tag and vin#)? That way we might be able to make sense of this.

hello Daniel,
thanks for the reply, the trim tag is as follows:
01C 0126
ST 67-12637 LOS 14690
TR 765-Z
E 2LG 3L
4P
VIN# 124377L135768
the I's being 1's, and dropping a 0, as you suggested, make sense.
it is a january car..
thanks, sonny

V II 6 MT
V-Flint Engine Plant
the next 4 digits are the month MM and day DD, either 1 digit is hard to see or it was omitted for some reason. These were stamped by humans so mistakes and omissions are not uncommon. I's (upper case i) were often used for (1)ones, as were lower case l's (L).

Sonny,
This is how the vin & trim tag decodes:
1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
37 = coupe body
7 = 1967 model year
L = Los Angeles, CA assembly plant (Van Nuys)
135768 = vehicle serial number sequence
Decode for body number: 014690
01C = Built the Third week of January.
67-12637 = Custom Interior Coupe.
LOS = Built in Van Nuys California.
765 = Custom Black Bucket Seats.
Z = (A50) Strato Bucket Seats.
- = Car Color is ??
O126 = Work order code.
Options:
1E = (A01) Tinted All Glass
2L = (M20 or M21) 4-speed floor shifter
2G = (D55) Console front compartment
3L = (Z22) Rally Sport Pakage
4P = (L48) SS 350
I believe you left off the color code for you car. You might want to check it again. elcamino is right about the decode of the engine. It looks like the should have been a leading zero before the II's which would have made the date code 01/16/67, witch is right for your body data code.
Does you car have the radios bar on the passenger side of the axle?
Thanks,
Daniel

You're missing a digit in your engine code. It's V0116MT, which is Jan 16, L48 engine (SS) with manual trans.
