Av gas, or racing fuel will work, but you can't cruise far, unless you know where the next source is. It's expensive, too.
I talked to a guy who had two 2-1/2 gal containers (the square kind) of racing fuel in his trunk. He added one container per tank of 93 octane, and that was enough to prevent detonation. Seems like he told me his compression was 10-1/2 or 10-3/4.
