Ok Heres another question, On my 302 is their another mechanical cam that is better? It does not have to be factory, but I still want the rough dont mess with me idle. With todays tech I would think there would be. Also what a bout todays gas? What should be run? What about lead for the valves? I have petronix ignitor for it but before I paint it I want all the mechanicals finished. Since my budget is very small I want toget it right the first time.
Thanks,
Mike

Just a question but why not go with a roller cam? They have a very good "My car is faster than yours idle" plus the less wear and tear.

Solid roller cams in street cars are not a good combination! the roller bearings in the lifters take a real beating at idle. COMP CAMS has a new series of roller lifters called ENDUREX for street but we have seen the brinnelling ( Flattening ) of the lifter roller bearings in as little a 5000 miles even with this set-up ( on a 10sec BB 496 Chevy ). Stick to a flat tappet cam! The hyraulic rollers do well because they dont take the hammering form the lash like a solid lifter does. I am against hydraulic lifters in a 302 or LT-1 because they ruin the acceleration characteristics of these engines and in a 302 thats all you have going for you. See my other post for thoughts on camshafting a 302.
