View Full Version : ZZ4 Headers - what will fit?
67killerb Jul 23rd, 01, 09:52 AM I'm looking for headers for my 67 Coupe, 4 Spd, no power anything, ZZ4 with the angled plug heads. I found an old topic on this, but no answers. I checked with Hedman and they don't have any to fit this combination. Surely someone has this combination and is running headers that fit properly.
Sleepy-69 Jul 23rd, 01, 10:04 AM Hedman's don't fit? That surprises me. I'd call Hedman direct to find out for sure.
Ed Bleich Jul 23rd, 01, 10:18 AM The folks at Sallee said that Hedman has a set of headers to directly fit the d shape port. The other option, according to them, was to get a header with a large enough tube to completely cover the output port - as opposed to trying to match it.
I run a set of Super Comp 1 5/8 - clearly I followed the latter philosophy. It seems to work fine with the exception of the pitman arm interference, but that is another problem and another thread.

HOTROD69CAMARO Jul 23rd, 01, 11:32 AM A friend of mine has Hedman shorty headers on his zz4. Not my first choice but an option. Its in an el camino but might be a choice.

gheatly Jul 24th, 01, 07:07 AM I have a ZZ3, which has the same heads with D-port exhaust. I used Hooker Competition series headers for angle plug heads. Of course, they don't have any special mods to adapt to the shape of the port either, but I don't know how much that matters. By the impressions on header gaskets, the header tube fully covers the port.
CarlC Jul 24th, 01, 03:04 PM Gene,
Are your Super Comps 1 5/8" or 1 3/4"?

jbracer921 Jul 25th, 01, 07:30 PM you might call dynatech they can build a custom set or you ...dont know about the price though
67killerb Jul 26th, 01, 05:55 AM I emailed Hooker and they said the 2131HKR's would fit. Gheatly, are those the comps you are using? BTW, I did check with Hedman, but thinking back, I am not too confident that the guy I talked to was very knowledgeable. Maybe I will call back and mention what the guys at Sallee said. Thanks,
gheatly Jul 26th, 01, 07:27 AM I am using the cheapo Competition Series. I believe the tubes are smaller than 1 5/8, maybe 1 1/2. To be honest, I really don't know.
I would like to get a set of Super Comps, but after hearing all of the problems people have with fitting them, I should just be happy with mine. I have zero interference with any other part of the car.
67killerb Jul 27th, 01, 07:38 AM Well, I called Hedman back and got an answer. They said the painted full length headers are part # 65003 and the ceramic ones are part # 65003-6. I checked summit and they want 169.95 and 352.95 for them. However, their description and tech info is misleading. The picture they show with the ceramic headers are shorty headers. Their description also says "square port header". Just thought I'd pass this along.
ZZ-28 Jul 27th, 01, 06:49 PM The Dynomax headers shown in the Summit catalog will fit and the ceramic coated are only $209. The round pipes are larger than the D port and don't close off any of the exhaust port. The angle head spark plugs are close on #5 and #6. You may want to use shortie plugs. They will fit cars with power steering.
HOTROD69CAMARO Jul 28th, 01, 06:09 AM I put the 65003-6 on mine and Summit said 2 weeks but Jegs had them for $389 no waiting.

ZZ430DropTop67RS Jul 28th, 01, 07:37 PM I'm using the Hooker Super Comps on mine, they are 1 3/4 coated. The plug clearance is great and they work well. Have pics> http://www.members.aol.com/zz430droptop67rs/images/img_0044.jpg http://www.members.aol.com/zl1copo427/images/img_0045.jpg
