I just bought a 69 big block. The trouble i'm having is figuring out the firewall tag.It is a Norwood O. 172658 with a 12A , that tells me it was built Dec. 1st week. The VIN # is 557763. But the tag has no X code on it.The books tell me all # after 544001 should have the X # on it.(late style tag) Any body help???? I know its an org. BB car because of the heater box, 12bolt, and dual exhust.

First, let me say the books are not always correct.
I have seen a 1969 12C (as well as 12A) Norwood car that does not have a X code and the VIN 563177. My understanding is that all had them after 12D but I could be wrong.

It's too early for an X-code.
Also, you'll have problems proving that it's a BB car. The 12 bolt was included on most 350 cars in December and dual exhaust was included on SS350's and optional on any V8. The heater box is a simple change to make.
Not to say it isn't, but just to let you know it's hard to prove.
Do you have the axle code? It is located on the passenger side axle tube. Look under 'Decoding' on the CRG website for a great sketch of the location.
One or 2 fuel lines?
12437 VIN?
Out of curiosity, what are the interior and color codes?

Greg, Thanks for getting back to me.Yes to your question on the 124379n in the vin. The color was 72 72 pnt, trim 711. The last owner painted it blue.
Can you tell me what all the differences are between a 711 & 712? Is it just the coverings or is the dash different?

711 interior is the std black. 712 is the deluxe black. Different seat covers, door panels, and the dash gets wood grain and a grab handle on the passenger side.
If you find the axle code, let us know.
