According to the faq at camaros.org, they did'nt put the x-codes on the trim tags ( I guess I should mention 1969) until 12B and all cars after this DO have an x-code. Is this correct? We have a 69SS(we think, hope)with a build week code of 12C with no x-code?
Any help? The rest of the tag is;
ST69 12437 NOR206624 BDY
TR 727 51 51 PNT
12 C
Thanks

Hello, is anyone here??
Did I commit some kind of unacceptable internet etiquette? Or was it just a really stupid question or something?

No, I don't think it was etiquette, there's really not alot you can tell without the x-code. You have to start looking at features on the car. If you do a search on the subject, I'm sure you'll find a wealth of information. It's just one of those questions that gets asked ALL the time, and I guess people just get tired of answering it! Don't feel bad, I've got an LA built car, and there were no "X" codes on them either, so I asked this question myself, about 7 months ago. Search and ye' shall find! Good luck......KZ

Ok, well I guess I guess I just didn't phrase the question right or something. I know how to read the vin and the trim tag.
We have already done all the research on everything we possibly can with the car and we are as sure as we ever are going to be what it is. Actually don't really care what it really is or was at this point cause its a great car as it is. My question was about the fact that they supposedly started putting the x-codes on the trim tags in the 2nd week of Dec (12B)and our trim tag has a build date of (12C) the 3rd week in Dec. but there is no x-code. From everything I have found in my research it should have one so I was asking if any one had any idea why. And if not I thought someone might be interested at least to know about it. Apparently no one knows or cares. So ok.
Thanks anyhow.

Penelope, this is the info that I've seen on the Camaros.org website:
Background: The X codes were a mid-1969 model addition to the Fisher body cowl tags of Norwood-built Camaros, starting with the 12B (second week of December) build week. (CRG has found 12B cars both with and without these codes. Our data for all cars in prior weeks is absent this code, and our data for all cars in weeks following contain this code.)
Well, maybe you should contact there website to let them know what you have found. It's very possible that you could have the 1st documented car built after 12B that did not come with an X code. Go to their site and let them know what you have found, I'm sure they would appreciate the response. There are alot of things about these 1st generation Camaros that are not cut and dry, and there always seems to be an exception to every rule. You may have just come across one. Good luck, and by the way, we do care.
This is a great site, and please let us know what you find out.....KZ

Could you post the VIN?

Never seen 69 car after 12B without an X-code. Well, actually, I have, trim tag had been replaced.

You have a tough car to prove that it is a SS. A LM1 car will be almost exactly the same.
Does it have a plate welded to the driver's side rear frame rail with 2 holes in it? It is 2" high and 5" long and is located 3" rearward of the shock. It is visible behind the rear tire if you are standing at the rear tire.
Dual fuel lines?

BTW, no etiquette problems, people just need to time check the board. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

Sorry didn't mean to be impatient but I read the post's here fairly often and it always seemed like they got answered pretty quick.
Anyway as to the car we have pretty much accepted the fact that we will probably never know for sure if it was an SS. It had been wrecked pretty bad and put back together almost as bad. Whoever restored it put a 427 in so at first we got a little excited thinking they may have been replacing a previous 427 but further research makes that look like a pretty unlikely possibility. So we dont really know how much is original, probably very little.
We have redone the body and paint and kept the 427 and put SS emblems on it. It looks great regardless. I'm just kind of curious about that build date and lack of x-code. It doesn't look like its been replaced but with this car it could be possible. I will tell CRG about it tho. Thanks. Oh the fuel lines have definetely been replaced but I will look for the plate on the frame. Thanks again.
Whoops forgot the vin# 124379N563177
