Does anyone know the build date and vin cut in no. for the 396 375hp L78? Also the build date and vin cut in no. for when the emblem was changed to just SS and SS 350 was discontinued?

JOE58,
It is not known when the L78 was first introduced but it looks like it was around the 1st of the year.
The change in the emblems from SS 350 to just SS is also being researched, but it was late in the model year.

The official Chevrolet Press Release debuting the 396/375 is dated November 26, 1966 but I don't think any were actually built until late December or early January.

My 10E rolled off the showroom floor with just SS on it.

3d cad,
CRG would like more info on your car. How do you know the SS was original? Are you the original owner? The SS badging I am talking about are the grill, horn button, and gas cap, is this what you are talking about?

The earliest K coded trim tag (375hp) vin I have found so far is N2291xx car. Which I believe is a May built car.

Any input on vin cut in no. on the 4N 396 325hp option?

This one on eBay seems a little early...

The L78 option was available in the 67 IPC replica's that were being built during the months of April and May 1967 www.camaropacecars.com

I think Daniel misspoke.
The L35 intro was beginning of the year timeframe.

I'm aware of a barn sour L35 in need of restoration that seems legit. However, it has a 12A body build date and a 12437N147*** vin number. All the right parts are there but not documents to back it up. The other concern is an I236 block and I226 heads. That’s little stretch before the body. Also no radius rod on the 12 bolt. Which from my understanding the radius rod entered production in mid Dec.
Any thoughts on this one would be greatly appreciated. :)

It all lines up just fine from what I see. Its still a little early for the radius rod to be expected. Does it have the bracket attached to the axel tube?

Post the numbers (VIN, tag, engine pad, axle code) or email them to me. That will tell a lot more.
Pic of the tag would be helpful.

Thanks!
