Is there any way using the VIN to find out if a vehicle is a true RS/SS?

Nope, not with just the VIN#....Post your trim tag information, and I'm sure one of our distinguished colleagues will decipher it for you. Thank you, and have a great day!

No way to tell from the 68 trim tags. You have to know the correct items to look for to verify if an SS or RS.

I don't like to be vague now but the way things are going as far as cloning the 68's, I don't think we on this board should give out clues on what to look for to verify these cars. I just don't think it's right.
I don't have a problem for 67's and 69's since they have information most of the time on the NOR tags. What do you all think? Am I nuts?

Education is a double edged sword!! You have to weigh the risks and the benifits. In our case it's better to educate to protect the buyer. The builder/seller is already educated through experience...

I am looking to purchase the above described
vehicle. I would like to know if I am making the right decision to go ahead and buy it. I would like to know if the Trim Tag and the VIN match and what to look for to verify it is a true RS/SS. Please help before I make the wrong choice of buying.
Thanks

What engine is in it and what are the codes/dates on the engine? Does the engine VIN match the car VIN? Reference the site posted above to look for certain clues to what the car might be. There is nothing on the trim tag that will tell you if it is a real RS/SS or not. You have to do your homework.

The car does not have the original powertrain. It has a 6K/7K tic toc tach. Big block heater core. RS rear tailights and reverse lights. Multileaf rear springs. Besides the RS healight switch and vacuum lines going through cowl, what other things that are not obvious should I look for.
