They are kinda like a blue print of your car, they list all options motor, trans, rear end, what interior , what kind of brakes, if it had gauges, tilt, power steering, where it was sold, who was the original owner etc...

to get one reproduced you (hopefully) will need some type of documentation verifying the originality of your car (original build sheet, or invoice) or an old POP. the info contained on the POP only tells you the original owner, engine code and date, trans type, rear axle code, (some options such as brakes, radio, power steering), month the car was built, and the VIN #.

Yeah, now that the BB cars are becoming more desirable I'm, sure you'll see some of those Z/28s become L-78s, L89s and COPO's. I have a documented L-78 Camaro ( with an original POP) that I'm sinking a considerable sum of money into, just to see all the guy's breaking out these BB clones complete with mail order POP's and bogus cowl tags. Plus, they are sucking up all the original parts that folks with the real thing could use. One example are the BB frame mounts. They were $25.50 each about six months ago, now you would be lucky to find a pair for 200.00. Not to mention a 837 Alt..These guys making and buying these mail order POPs and cowl tags should have #@$#* cut off. Sorry, I contained myself on the post, but now I have to vent.

Reproducton POP's, pathetic, the only thing going for an original is that it will probably at least look old. The one that was in the glove box of my Z had some surface rust and the owners name and address was made with a label maker and was fading. Of course these people will probably do their own distressing too.
