I need help with identity of a transmission I took out of a 68 camaro with no engine. It appears to be a three speed with the following numbers on it. On pass side of tail section #8860042 or#8880042 and GM 47.On the middle section before the bell housing,pass side GM 44, K227 and #3925847 and drivers side possible #3919386 (partially obliterated) and K4370. any help will be appreciated..thanks Greg P.

greg, the only thing I can find for you is the "K" means it was built in the McKinnon plant. Their isn't enough other # to get the rest of it. It should read like (P9t16B example) [

It's a 3 speed Saginaw.
Your #'s should be 3925647 and 3860042.
Below the side cover on a pad, should be the assembly code, e.g. S8B12.

Kurt can you tell if this is a 68 camaro transmission and what engine it might match up to.I found the number on the pad it is S8S29,and also found what might be the vin# 18N357845 which does not match the one on the car...Thanks Greg P...

The VIN indicates that it came out of a December built 68 Camaro. The pad says it's a Saginaw 3 speed, built 68 model year, November 29th.
It would have gone behind anything from a L6 to a 327. I think the SS350 got a different 3 speed, but I don't recall for sure.
