My boss was cleaning out his fathers garage to help him move and came across a King Distributor machine. Apparently his dad was a wrencher when he was much younger. They were going to pitch it in the garbage when he remembered that I have a bunch of older cars and thought I might want it. I told him to bring it in with any documentation (manuals)that might help me figure out how to use it.
Well, he brought it in today and put in the back of my truck but unfortunately no manuals. It looks to be in pretty fair shape except the vacuum hoses will need to be replaced due to dry rot. Any idea if this company is still in business to get manuals?? Any idea of the value of this thing? A friend of mine said he seen one go at a swap meet for $100.00. Does that sound about right? I will probably hang on to it and see if I can make it work but don't know how much use it will get. Just a neat looking gadget

How large is it?
I've got a little Allen brand one the size of about 12"X18" square.
I've not heard of the King brand. Look for a serial number tag and see if there is any other name on it.

I will check for other identification when I clean it up tonight. I put it on my work bench last night and it definitely says King. My guess is that it weighs 30 lbs and is about 2.5-3 foot wide and and about 18" tall. Has about a 12" rotating table with 2 clamps to hold the distributor in the middle with 4 guages (vacuum, cam angle, dwell, RPM)on the panel. I will get more of the particualars tonight when I attmpt to clean it up some and plug it in to see if it works.

I have no intention of throwing it out, but if I detrmine that useage will be minimal and just taking up space on my workbench then I might sell it to someone that might have some use for it.

Definitely a "King" Electric model D-5 machine. It was made in Cleveland Ohio in the 1950's (I know this because there is a scroll of car specifications attached to the machine and they are all for mid 1950's cars.)

Actual size id 26"X16"X12" and the panel is at about 45 degrees. Interesting piece of which I am not sure of the value but I am going to see if I can get it working and then decide what to do with it. Wish i had a manual. I doubt that the manufacturer is still in business but I am going to research that tommorow.
