My 69 SS is a Van Nuys built car 10C. The paint code is 65F. Olympic gold, but does the F denote a brown vinyl roof? the books I have says so. This car has all the original rear sheet metal and there are no holes that have ever been in the areas that the vinyl roof trim would have attached. I have never had a vinyl roof Camaro, so any help here is appreciated. Did the vinyl roof trim use clips that required holes in the rear body sheet metal or were there clips welded into the metal on the exterior that may have been ground off during an earlier resto? Anything is possibly as this car was used exclusively as a drag car from 70-93 and is now blue in color.
Thanks,
Dave

Wow, I had to look up that top color! (I have most of the codes memorized at this point.) Almost never see that color.
Yup, that's a dark brown top. Out of almost 1900 69 cars in our database, we only have 4 with that top. And none that are gold. I'm thinking that might actually look nice. But I'm a sucker for that gold color....
The pins for the top were welded on, so it's easy to grind them off.
Could you post your VIN and the rest of the trim tag #'s?
Thanks!

Kurt,
Thanks for your help! I've got a lot of experience with first gen Camaros, but have never owned or restored a vinyl top car. Trim tag and VIN are as follows:
ST69 12437LOS142890
TR713 65F PNT
10C T031
VIN 124379L505122
I had listed the car for sale last month and had two offers but both deals fell through. I am considering selling it again.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for the data.
Seems like it was ordered as a nice car. SS, houndstooth, and unusual top color. I think the combo would work.
SB or BB?

Car was originally a SB. I had thought it was a BB car because the firewall had never been punched for SB heater core. the firewall had a small close out panel added to the passenger side when the heater equipment was removed to drag race the car. I removed the panel and found it had been an air conditioned car origianlly. I was surprised because it has the standard heater control and kick panels. I don't know why someone would go to the trouble to change those if the cars was used origianlly just for drag racing for the first 20 years of it's life. But if you pull back the trunk weatherstriping you can see the origianl Olympic gold paint and the tail piece was not painted black as it would have been on an SS 396 car with this paint code. Body wise it's an excellent car, it's so tight and straight you'd never know it was drag raced all those years. I think the 8 point cage, sluminum bushings, welded frames and the fact they didn't run the 4 speed in it helped keep the body tight. All of those years off of the street has also preserved the bottome side of the car. It's just way too modified for me. My last project was a frame off 68 RS and I just want a simplier one this time around, so I guess this one will be posted for sale soon.
Thanks for your help,
Dave
