: help me identify this block

I was told it was a large journal 327. The block pad is stamped with nothing but letters! It reads: T I O I O H C
I have not pulled it out of the car yet nor have I had the engine apart yet. It does have a set of the old GM "turbo" angle plug 2.02 heads on it.
Can anyone verify that it is a large journal block?

The letter I was sometimes used in place of the number 1.
T1010HC:
HC 1965
327ci
Powerglide
275hp
4-bolt mains

A 1965 4-bolt main 327 block? Was it for farm use?
I appreciate your help. I did not know that the letter "I" was sometimes used in the place of a "1".

Due to the absence of a VIN# on the pad, it is probably a '69 350 2bbl. The VIN will be on the side of the block, by the oil filter.

We could use the casting date code here.

As a side note, the commercial HD truck motors do not have VIN derivative stamps at that time.

I will get the date code, but it won't be until next Tuesday before I get back on-line.
Thanks guys.

I just assumed it was a 327 from what he says. I shoulda asked for the block casting number before assuming....

HWYSTARJOE Your shot at identifying this block is as good as anyones with the vague info that I supplied.
Without removing the pan, and checking the date code....I have to assume that it is what the seller says it is....a large journal 327. I was hoping that the strange pad stamping(all letters) would be enough info for some small block guru to help me out without going to the trouble of removing the pan.

But it won't be a 4 bolt block if it's a 327. There weren't any of those.....

The pad stamping says Tonawanda, October 10th assembly date along with the "HC" which is used for different applications depending on year.

Assuming it has a casting code for 68 production... It is a 68 large journal 327 from a full size passenger car, 4 barrel, 2 bolt main, powerglide, 275 HP in its original configuration.

If it is dated for a different year then it is not a LJ 327 in its original configuration.

The heads are over the counter HP replacements so who knows what is inside. Hope this helps.

Okay guys, I crawled around and found a few more numbers.
The date code is: I 28 6
The engine casting number located on the drivers side bellhousing flange is 3903352
And the pad is stamped T J O I O H C
I Know now that it was cast in Sept 28, 1966.
Were there any large journal 327 blocks in 66?

Only small journals back in '66/ '67.

67 production year, full size passenger car, powerglide, 275 HP, small journal. This is the original configuration.

-Mark.

Colvin says in his book this block was only used mid to late 67 production. I guess a revision is in order here?

My first week Nov 66 conv has a numbers matching 3352 block. So, a 327/275hp block was used in front of at least 4spds in the fall and winter of 66. My heads are straight plug 462's with K** dates as I recall from memory.

I'll add, that the 3352 is a small journal, 2 bolt main. The crank has a threaded hole for the dampener.
On my April 67 hardtop with a 3892657 block, the crank does not have a threaded hole for the dampener. This is a 327/210hp with Powerglide setup.
