On a 67 Yes there would be Info on the cowl tag to indicate RS option. as Far as 3914678 I found it listed as 1968 302, 327, 350 2 bolt main Casting. Would have to get the Front pad info to tell you more on that one.

First - V1130MA, decodes as;
V = Flint engine final assembly
11 = November
30 = 30th day of Nov.
MA = 327ci/210hp w/3 or 4 speed manual trans in Camaro application.

J317 = would be a Oct 31st, 1967 casting date for your block.

As far as the 'decode' on the Tag, you will find a letter "L" in the 3rd options grouping under the 'trim' and 'paint' markings on the tag to indicate the RS option as being present on a 67.
There will probably be other options on the car also and they will be indicated in the other groups.
If you post all the numbers you find on the tag we can help you decode the car.

Hope this helps;

John

Well it looks like you've got a winner
graemlins/thumbsup.gif
It is (or was?) a Rally Sport!
Looks like it was a nicely equiped car and may well be work restoring - depending on the condition and price.

You Cowl Tag decodes as;

02A = Feb, 1st week final assembly
6269 = Internal plant code - see some CRG info on this.
67 = Model Year 1967
12637 = Chevrolet, Camaro, V-8, Coupe with Custom Interior
LOS = Los Angeles (Van Nuys, Ca) final assembly plant
16328 (number missing) = Body Number
765 Z = Black Custom Interior with Bucket Seat Trim
F = Marina Blue (Lower or body color)
2 = Black Vinyl Top
E = Tinted Windows - All
2
G = Center Console
U = 8 Track/Multiplex Stereo sytem! Neat and rare option!
3
S = RPO-Z23 - Iterior Trim Option package. You can read up on everything included in the CRG site.
L = Rally Sport option

No codes for optional V-8's so the Base 327/210 was probably the engine. You will have to keep investigating to see if you can find out which manual trans it was equiped with.
See if you can get the code from the rear end, check CRG for details on where to find.

Hope some of this helps;

JOHN - DID NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MODEL # on the vin - 12437 7 L AND THE MODEL # ON THE COWL TAG - 12637 . IS THIS OK ?? did SEE SOMETHING ON CGR about the 2 model #S USED ON SAME CAR ??? like mine - confusing

That is correct - the VIN will be 12437 and the Cowl will be 12637 on your car.
