I am looking to purchase this numbers matching 1968 Camaro SS 396 and I want to be sure I'm de-coding this correctly and see if any of you Camaro experts can add any additional information to what is already hear. From what I can tell it appears to break down like this.

VIN: 124378L310243
1=Chevrolet
2=Camaro
4=V8
37=two-door hardtop coupe
8=1968 model year
L=Van Nuys
310243=sequential unit number

10E
ST6812437 LOS09725
TR749 K2 Paint

10=October
E=5th week
68=1968 model year
12437=Sport Coupe V8
LOS=Van Nuys
09725=sequential body build number
749=Black/hound's-tooth buckets
K=Tripoli Turquoise
2=Black vinyl top

Number on block pad: T10 0MY 18L310243

T=Tonawanda
10=October assy
0=?? I think this should be two digits I'm having the current owner check on this
MY=396/325hp L-35
18=???? Don't know what this is
L=Van Nuys ? I think
310243=last six digits in the VIN

Any in-put would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for the help from a Team Chevelle member trying to buy a Camaro

Looks good to me except the trim tag number: 12437 does not tell you that it is a V8, it just tells you that it is a Sport Coupe.

just so there's no confusion...124 is always on the trim tag, regardless of engine.
In the VIN, 124 means V8, and 123 means I6

Thanks for the input gentlemen. I take it that this car is in fact an SS 396 but can someone tell me what the "18" means that is in front of the L310243 that is located on the engine pad.

1= Chevrolet
8= 1968

It's really the partial VIN with a 1 in front of it.
