hi, i'm looking to buy a Gen 3, so one day i was shoping around and found red iroc.It has full iroc kit and intirior (i think) but side-skert stiker displays "Iroc-Z Tuned Port Injection" and engine is Throttle-Body Injection. I'v checked the VIN and it came up with L03 and that was same for RS and Iroc(base model). now that got me confused, how can i tell wether its original Iroc just with update kit or RS with a Iroc kit?

Info: VIN: 1G1FP21E2KL136250
Colour: Red
Rims: Five Spoke, Gold
Year:1989
Engine:L03

Any help will be apresiated, 'couse the car is in my price range.

The LO3 engine is the base engine for the Iroc-Z camaro in 1989. Also an 89 Iroc-Z had a third brake light in the spoiler.

If my memeory seves me correctly, iroc pkg automatically got TPI. Check the rear end. Should be a 9 bolt with disc. I converted a 82 berlinetta back in 89 to an 86 look a like and had all the goodies sans tpi cause my 400 hp holly pulled a bit better. Check out sway bar sizes and steering box #s with GM. Most people won't get that extensive to replicate an IROC. Feel free to ask me any build up questions. I have much experience in this era.

The vin decodes this way.
IGI FP 21E 2KL 136250
IGI - Chevrolet division, USA
FP - F body, P - Camaro Sport coupe.
2 - two door hatchback
1 - manual belts
E - RPO LO3 V8 5.0 liter TBI (throttle body injection)
2 - check digit postition #9
K - 1989
L - assembled in Van Nuys plant
136250 plant sequence number (serial number)
It's not an IROC.
I had an 89 IROC and it had a hollow front bar and an added brace running parallel to the bar frame mounts.
The tag inside the console would show all the option codes for the car, but the console might have been changed. The vin should match from the console tag and trunk lid, windshield and several other places have the vin.

TBI and an IROC, no I don't think so. Run the block numbers and see if it is even a 350????
