I have seen two types of tailights on 68 Camaros, one has a white reverse lens and the other has two red. What is the difference between the two? My 68 Z has the red only lenses. I'm not sure what is original to the car. Thanks in advance to what is probably a simple question.
Ralley Sport optioned cars had backup lights mounted below the bumper.

On a 68 standard car the brake lights are single with the back up lights just inboard. If the car is a RS, then the brake lights occupy both spaces in the housing and the back up lights are located below the bumper as DJD noted. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

It's not an R/S as far as I know. Did they make a R/S-Z/28 in 1968? I have the numbers matching 302 that is not in the car. So I am almost positive that it is a Z. Unfortunetly the firewall tag was removed in an effort to clean up the firewall so I can't verify all the build information. It doesn't have back up lights under the bumper either. Someone may have switched them somewhere down the line.

Yes they made a RS/Z28 in 68. If you have a numbers matching 302 for that car it would be a Z/28. the 302 was not used in any other Camaro except the Z. Whats the numbers off the engine. Engine code/Suffix--Partial VIN and the Casting number?

Well on the pad there is code VO224MO, and the vin 18N392753. Im not sure where the casting location is---If it the number in the rear, above the oil filter then it is 3914678. Also, I saw where there were around 6,000 Zs made in 1968, any idea how many are left?

Of the original 6000 '68 Z/28's made there are about 25000 of them left  .

I think you have the real deal there. My '68Z engine code is V0226MO(two days after yours!) and my VIN is N392148, pretty close to your engine build date/and VIN number. 3914678 is also correct block cast number. I believe 7199 Z/28's made in '68.
I agree with the others, these 68Z’s have been multiplying over the years!
