I currently have a power glide shifter for my 67 camaro. I am planning to install a th350. after studying the shifter I have noticed something I dont know if this is wrong or right. wathing the the shifter arm move along the shfit bracket it doesnt slide up into the highest slot. my assumption is that this highest slot is for neutral and drive? will it need to go into this slot or is this normal?
thanks

It's probably just filled with 34 years of crud, mine was. I took it apart and cleaned it and the detent started working properly again. Then I put the shiftworks conversion kit on it, www.shiftworks.com (http://www.shiftworks.com) for the 700R4 that is in my car.

As Stephen said - the Shiftworks set up is the way to go. If you are going from a PG to 3 or 4 speed you will need a new "Detent" in order to give you the shifter position for you 3rd or 4th gear. I converted a PG column shift to a floor shift TH400 ove teh winter and the $39 kit from Shiftworks had everything needed.
One piece of advise. You have to remove the old detent and the hardend welds are a real pain to break loose. Do not try and muscle them loose or you will throw the shifter houseing out of line and loose your original detent point of referance.
Trace the original denent before you start working on it and get a high quality hardended 1/8" drill bit to drill out the welds. After you remove the old lay the new detent on your traced lines and mark the new attachment hole positions. Drill the shifter housing at these hole locations and bolt the new detent into place and your ready to go.
Good luck.
