I'm interested in purchasing a 69 rs camaro. How can i be sure it's a true rs? Is there information on the cowl tag that will tell me?

Hi 60's and welcome too TC. There is nothing in the cowl tag or VIN to help determine a true RS car. You need the build sheet or POP card for that. RS is easy to make up but expensive too.
Try reading thru searches here and read up on how others have checked out RS and SS claims that dont pan out.
good luck, I think they are the coolest option package but then Im partial.

Thanks for the info. The car I'm looking at has hidden headlamps, rs emblems and rs steering wheel. Are there any other options that could indicate an rs car? It's a 4speed car with a 350 engine no power brakes or steering.

Hello, look for back up lights in the tailpan below the rear bumper. There should be 2 rectangular light bezels. Or at least cut away sections for the lights. Look for extra vacuum hoses on the wiper motor,also on the headlamp switch up under the dash. Should have a vacuum canister as well near the washer fluid tank. Hope this helps a little.

other things that you might check that arent readily available are:

the headlight washer actuator mounted on top of the windshield wiper motor.
the tail light housing. there should not be a hole for the back up switch on the middle of the bottom side of the housing.
the headlight support bars that were for rs only.

those are things that to my knowlegde are not being reproduced. other things that can be checked for are

holes holes for the vacuum hoses and rear back up lights. also, are they the correct fenders?n rs and standard fenders are different.

jenpopp, the vacuum tank will be on the drivers side by the radiator support and on RS cars, the washer bottle will be on the passenger side inner fender behind the battery.

Check the holes where the reverse lights bolt it. Not everybody makes the cutout as clean as the factory. Also if it still has the factory harness in the trunk all four lights will work for the brakes and turn on a rs and only the outside on a standard. Its not too hard to make up an rs car.
