Ok, Firebird. But this is a strange trim tag VIN question that went unanswered in the Firebird site. I have 2 68 birds. One was built in Lordstown (OH) the other in Van Nuys..The Lordstown car was built 2C and the VIN sequence # is 44,000. Sounds correct..Now, the Van Nuys car was built 4C and VIN sequence is 4,000!..Sounds like an early car, but it isnt. One more thing, a friend has a 68 Firebird with VIN sequence # 87! and a build date of 8B (67)..I checked my Van Nuys car real well..the VIN and trim tag have NOT been altered or removed and the color codes on the trim tag match exactly...Any ideas?

Thanks

Maybe they wern't building a lot of 'birds at Van Nuys in 1968, I had though that Lordstown was the prime Firebird source until April 1969.

I don't know but if the sequence is that low, that would be a logical answer, Capt Kirk.

Don't know if this will help but, On March 4, 1968 the Van Nuys plant began to assemble Firebirds per Firebird Red Book. Tim

It is similiar to the Camaro White Book (author Michael Antonick)which shows Serial numbers, options, specs, production numbers, etc. The author for the Firebird Red Book is Peter C. Sessler. You should be able to find it at a book store or have it ordered by them. Tim

OH! Okay, Thanks Tim. I have a Firebird book similar to the Camaro white book somewhere. I didn't think to hunt it down!

You can only compare tag #'s with cars built at the same plant.

I happen to have the #'s on a 68 LA F-bird made in April. #'s are like yours.

I'd be interested in the actual #'s from your LA car whenever you get a chance. Email or post them.

Thanks!

Kurt, the VIN is 223378L104637..Isn't that odd being an April build?

What's the trim tag #'s?
Looks OK for an April build.

The car is being stored about 30 miles from here. It'll be a few days until I can get the exact trim tag info, but I believe the build date in 4C..I know it's 4-something. Interior code 253. Color core RR..
