Was wondering if there was any way to tell if a 69 was a real RS without the build sheet?

I have been wondering the same thing since last weekend. There was a local car show at one of the area high schools. Saw a 69 with RS badging and the hidden headlights. For some reason the front of the car did not look right. The front parking lights set out from the panel and the hood looked to be just a plain stock hood.No stripes, engine marking or anything on the car. Hood was shut, so you were not able to check under the hood. Car was not in bad shape.

Try a search in here guys, its been discussed alot over the years, click on 'search' at top and type in RS and get ready to read alot.
In a nutshell, RS means hiding headlights, headlight washer nozzels, headlight solennoid for fluid on the windshield motor, extra chrome trim around wheel wells, special headlight switch in dash to accomodate headlight doors with vacuum hoses. etc etc.
Without a build sheet or dealer order and VIN on it, a car can be cloned into an RS but the headlight washer solendoid is the hardest to find, its not made anywhere. One motor and solenoid recently sold on ebay for nearly $800.
hope that helps

Also, the backup lights are in the panel below the rear bumper not in the brake lights. I know it can be added but most folks don't go through the trouble.

Hey 67camss/rs, I live in Chesterfield, VA and have 69 RS. Do you go to any of the cruise in's like at Target on Midlothian Turnpike? I'm always interested in meeting up with fellow Camaros.net folks. I have a friend 'basscat' that posts here as well. He's restoring a 68 all original car. We should try to hook up.

It didn't have anything to do with stripes, hoods or front parking lamps. The grill would have RS emblems unless it was an SS or Z/28 and "rally sport" was spelled out on the front fender except on SS cars.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'm just use to seeing SS and Z28 69s. 69nStyle,haven't been to the Target cruise-in. Only had the car back on the road for several months. Now its back on jack stands while I get the parts to repair the rear-end as a result of a problem at Richmond dragway.Would be good to get together with some members of TC. Know there is another from Chesterfield (Booddlefoof)going to W&M in Williamsburg.

Dennis, I thought RS was the only model with the bright trim on the parking lamp lenses. of course, that's an easy one to swap out.

The chrome trim on the parking lights up front was only in the early months of productions from what I read in here. It was phased out after that. Im just guessing but maybe they kept falling off?
I put them back on my lights, used special epoxy my wife had, gooped them up and then set the chrome side down on a towel, then layed a bag of sand over the top of the lense to hold it down into the chrome piece to dry. Then I cleaned away the glue that oozed out during the dry time, with an exacto knife.
I wish it had bend over tabs but it didnt. So far the epoxy has held good. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

On what Jim explains I searched and found this thread. http://www.camaros.net/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=003399#000000
