I'm only able to see the following code on the front of the engine block:V0925DZ. Shouldn't there also be another code in the same area that shows the serial number ID to then match to the serial no. on the VIN?

The VIN is: 124379L516194

Also, the transmission code is: PI19A

I'm just trying to make sure I'm looking to buy a true "matching numbers" car. What info. can you give to help me match the numbers, and identify the transmission?

Can you help?

By what Im reading in your post, the engine is a Sept. 25 engine and the tranny is a Sept. 19 which is entireally possible. Now I personally have never seen it, but word on the street has it that you might be able to find the VIN that your looking for next to the oil filter area(I think) or something to that degree. Hopefully somebody else will answer here to shead some light to that.

Posting the complete cowl tag along w/the rear end numbers would further aid in decoding the car. The partial VIN should also be stamped on the trans somewhere. The trans numbers indicate it is a Muncie M-20 wide ratio 4 speed. On www.camaros.org (http://www.camaros.org) is a lot of info for what is correct for a '69 Z-28 as well as a lot of decoding info.

I'm a doubter that it is original, but I'd like to see the trim tag and have some details to confirm.

There should be a VIN either on the pad or by the oil filter.

Can you recheck the trans code? The format should be P9S19A. A digit is missing and 'I' is not a valid date code.

And as mentioned, the rearend code is key to get.

Single fuel line?

The VIN stamp should be down by the oil filter on a rough spot making it difficult to see and decipher. My deck code by the alternator is V0618DZ and the VIN stamp by the oil filter is 19N667018 - the last six digits matching the VIN. You should be able to see it without removing anything.

Kurt correct me if I'm wrong, but the partial VIN will not be at the oil filter pad. This changeover occurred in the second or third week of December, 1968. The question concerns a car built in September 1968. Therefore, it would not have the partial VIN by the oil filer pad. Also, we're talking about a Van Nuys car. I understand the VN plant waffled about the placement of the partial VIN on the block.

gheatly...the car he is discussing is a Jan. '69, 2nd week (01B) car by the VIN (L516194) and therefore, I believe, would fall in the timeframe where the LA plant "waffled" and moved the stamping to the oil filter location.

Since I'm leaning towards the engine not being original, I'd check both places.
But I'd really like to see the rest of the data to see what is or isn't original.

With that build date, it could be back on the engine pad.

Can you tell me EXACTLY the location of the vin by the oil filter? I spent 2 more hours with the seller tonight, but did not find it!

Thanks,

Sometimes a picture helps

If the number was stamped in the oil filter area it will be on the vertical part of the engine bell housing mount.

did my annual oil change today. my car is a 12C la car and i thought the block had been decked because i couldn't make out the vin on the front pad. gave the oil filter pad a look and sure enough there was a 13726 to match my vin of 12376L513726. makes me feel better about the car since the fellow who sold it to me had lied about a lot of the other stuff (air just needs freon, brakes only need rear pads, etc.)
secndgn, thanks for posting the pic, it really helped out. i wasn't exactly sure where to look before i saw the pic.
