U.S.RS/SS Jan 14th, 04, 03:26 PM Hello, I have a 67 SS that I would like some help decoding. It's suppose to be an RS/SS but I think it was made to be the RS part. Here's the numbers Vin reads: 124377L164097
Block reads: L7164097 VO623MU
Trim reads:

I also have the protect-o-plate in a safe deposit box that I will copy tomorrow if it will help with additional information.
any input will be greatly appreciated.

67ss350camaro Jan 15th, 04, 01:30 AM The car is not an RS smile.gif
jg95z28 Jan 15th, 04, 01:47 PM A 1967 block with a partial VIN???? I thought those didn't start appearing until 1968?
U.S.RS/SS Jan 15th, 04, 03:29 PM Didn't get to the bank for the POP numbers today, I apologize for my ineptness. 1st on the list for Friday. Thanks for the rest of the info though.
Did the 67 block not have partial Vin numbers ?
Maybe these casting numbers will help
Block casting:
3892657
13GM
manifold casting:
3905393
GM
T
J186
Jeff H Jan 15th, 04, 04:12 PM Some of the lower performance engines in 67 often didn't get the partial VIN stamped into them(327's). But the 350 and 396 should have a partial VIN stamped in it.
HwyStarJoe Jan 15th, 04, 06:06 PM MU 1967 and 1968 350ci Camaro 295hp L-48 Powerglide 4-Brl Hyd.Cam
It's the correct date for your car also.... V0623MU = June 23rd
U.S.RS/SS Jan 15th, 04, 07:30 PM Great, Good to hear that, will the POP have more info on the motor ?
HwyStarJoe Jan 16th, 04, 03:53 AM U.S.,
If you haven't already, read The Camaro Research Groups information.

U.S.RS/SS Jan 16th, 04, 10:09 AM Yes, thanks for the info page, but I'm having trouble with sequence QSO621G, 331, and T7P30D. here is my P-O-P:
D RR 124377L164097 C
VO623MU QS0621G X
T7P30D 3 3 1 CHEVY EMBLEM
persons name
address
PHX ARIZ 8/31/67
Note: the 331 is directly under the Q,0,2
HwyStarJoe Jan 16th, 04, 10:45 AM You have a 12-bolt rearend,correct? That's what the QS0621G code is for.
QS - 1967 3.07 open 12 bolt built June 21st at Chevrolet Gear & Axle.
The 3 might be RPO U63. Does it have an AM radio with pushbuttons and front, telescoping antenna? I can't figure out the rest of 331 either.
T7P30D:
T - Powerglide built at Toledo plant
7 - Model year
P - Month built: Sept. (??)
3 - Day of month: 30th
D - Day shift
The trans date says it was built in Sept. 1966, for a July '67 car??
U.S.RS/SS Jan 16th, 04, 10:59 AM HwyStarJoe:
Thanks Joe, I have been doing some more research my self and I think the 3,3,1, stands for N40/J50 (Power steering/Power brakes)- U63(AM radio) - C60(Air conditioning), But I still don't know what the (P) stands or in the T7P30D ?
U.S.RS/SS Jan 16th, 04, 11:09 AM Oh, and by the way Yes, I have a 12 bolt rear end, and as for the radio, it was replaced with a sanyo sometime back in the early 80's, that is my quess.
HwyStarJoe Jan 17th, 04, 03:52 AM The P in the trans stamping is the month it was built. Maybe someone here could shed some lite on why it's so far from the cars build date. I'm going to assume it's been replaced unless you can find a VIN on it.
Mark C Jan 17th, 04, 04:55 AM The P on the trans code on the POP is probably a TYPO. Typos on POPs are pretty common, after the engine and trans was installed the codes were written on the broadcast sheet along with the VIN and sent to a clerk for input, so that the POP would be ready by the time the car hit the end of the assembly line. It was put in the glove compartment along with the spare keys. The code should probably be a K. Is the trans original? If so what's stamped on it.
U.S.RS/SS Jan 17th, 04, 05:22 AM No, that's the only part of the drive train that has been replaced. it originally was a Toledo powerglide, and some time later was replaced with a TH400. I am thinking of trying to locate a true numbers matching trany for this car. Would this increase the value of this car ? I also wonder if the tranys had partial vin # on them, because that would make the search next to impossible.
HwyStarJoe Jan 17th, 04, 12:00 PM Most '67 trans didn't have a partial VIN on them (CRG) so I guess it wouldn't be AS difficult to find a matching Powerglide, but I'd be surprized if you did. Are you Irish?

HwyStarJoe Jan 17th, 04, 12:01 PM .
U.S.RS/SS Jan 17th, 04, 01:13 PM No, I'm not irish, but I could use some Irish friends to help find a trany, I think that would increase the odds a little.
Thanks for the info, you have been a great help in further understanding the background and history of my camaro.
Long ways to go yet and a hole lot of money, but that's half the fun.
JohnZ Jan 17th, 04, 02:02 PM P = September for both Powerglide and THM350. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
U.S.RS/SS Jan 17th, 04, 05:28 PM Thanks Johnz, but That date make me wonder how a September Trany can be installed on a July Car. Is this part of the TYPO errors that Markc was talking about. I think all the other numbers seem to pan out except for that (P)
