: Production Dates
GreenLaker Mar 3rd, 02, 03:12 PM Greetings, I was told there is no such thing as a dumb question, so here it comes.
Can anybody tell the production start/stop, by month and week, start to finsh for 1969 models built at the Norwood plant. Thanks in advance.
GreenLaker Mar 3rd, 02, 03:19 PM I forgot to ask 1 more question to the above post, my car has a 10C on the build and is stamped X-22. Was it built late 68 or October of 69. Thanks
HawaiianCamaro Mar 3rd, 02, 03:47 PM Oct 67 i believe since Oct 68 would already be selling 69 model years
? whats the rest of the numbers off it?

GreenLaker Mar 3rd, 02, 04:09 PM Production sequence of VIN# 700869. So after additional reading I believe that it is a late (like October 69). Thanks
elcamino Mar 3rd, 02, 04:32 PM Production for 1969 models started late August or early Sept. 1968. I have seen an 09A car.
The last one I seen was 5th week of October 1969 10E and the last 6 were 709011.
700869 would have been 10D of 1969.

Dang, the spacing didn't hold up. http://www.camaros.net/forum/frown.gif Anyway, just use the spacing between the numbers to line them up. Van Nuys officially ended in June, but due to a strike on 05A, the last 1000 cars were made late June thru July 69, all with 05A dates (like my SS).

3DUDE Mar 3rd, 02, 05:41 PM Kevin where does that info come from?I know of several exceptions to those numbers. I have been wondering about build date/ vin sequences myself and have a small data base of dates/numbers and lately have seen several that dont fall in with those you posted EG... 10E car w/N709xxx (I have not seen another 10E car though)But 3 02D cars N608xxx,N610xxx and N612XXX (this last 1 is questionable though)I am just wondering if these cars were delayed somehow and got vins from later than they should have or what .Maybe Kurt has some info on this he could share...Mike
PS...GreenLaker I must have a younger sister to your car mine's a 10D with N702 and she lives in ILLINOIS too

KevinW Mar 4th, 02, 07:00 AM I got them from an older Camaro website. I do not attest to it's accuracy, I only use it as a rule of thumb. CRG's database will be more accurate. That's one of the reasons CRG should be given all the help in gathering the numbers as possible! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
Kevin
Kurt S Mar 4th, 02, 09:47 AM Remember the dates are the build 'dates' of the body, which may or may not correlate very well to the actual months. Some weeks lasted longer than others. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
There are 12 10E cars in the db, btw.

Unreal Mar 4th, 02, 02:13 PM I had the same question about my 10C car, until I learned that X codes started in December 68 (Norwood, only) Therefore an X coded car built months 8-12 were all built in callendar 1969.
Unreal Mar 4th, 02, 02:16 PM oh, yeah, It also helps to know that the 69 VINs started at 500,001. you can deduce from the VIN whether you had an early car or a late car.
GreenLaker Mar 4th, 02, 03:05 PM Thanks to all,the info I found and was provided by fellow owners helped make sense of my cars history.
Jonesy Mar 4th, 02, 05:01 PM That list that KevinW provided was based on figures of VIN's that the US Camaro Club had in it's database over the years. They have stated that the info on the monthly start/end units are approximate as to what info they had on file. At least they had some idea of when they started and ended. They never said it was the gospel truth. The CRG group probably has more accurate or updated info on this, however, we may never know the exact VIN start/end numbers.
3DUDE Mar 5th, 02, 08:21 AM I was in no way bashing Kevin I hope it didnt come across that way if it did I am Sorry. It just seems like the more I find out the more exceptions there seems to be I am curious as to the wide range of 02D vins I have seen.Again I did'nt mean any Ill will I was just curious where the info came from.
Mike
KevinW Mar 5th, 02, 02:53 PM Mike, No offense taken. Positive discusion and rigorously picking apart the data makes the data more accurate. I hope CRG can publish an updated chart with the weeks in the future. That would help out a lot.
Kevin
Mr. C Mar 5th, 02, 06:23 PM Hey 3DUDE add #4 02D to your list with N655495 I was told its a retagged car but apon further investigation neither tags appear to be tampered with and the trim paint code 63 Champagne is correct found origonal color under several layers of paint on cowl under cowl panel. A buddy of mine worked at Norwood when these cars were being built and says anything could and did happen during assembly.
3DUDE Mar 5th, 02, 06:31 PM Man this is getting craz.I have a 655 car with 04C too and a 639 05A car I would sure like to see the CRG data base for 69 I wonder if thats possible?
Mr. C Mar 5th, 02, 06:42 PM When I first was told mine was probably a retagged car I about flipped and was ready to stop the restoration. After a lot of searching I found mine wasn't the only one with the crazy date codes and vin #s.I'm glad I kept going also only .03% were painted code 63.The guy I bought the car from also about flipped when I knock on his door and asked about the car being retagged. He had owned the car since 1979 and had bought it from his Aunt who had bought it new.I'll stop and see him tommorrow and tell him about this if he doesn't run me off when I pull into his driveway.Man I feel better about my Camaro.

Kurt S Mar 5th, 02, 07:54 PM A N639xxx car is an 05A car.
A N655xxx VIN is definitely not an 04C or a 02D car..
One of the things we will not publish is production weeks vs VIN's. Too much benefit for restampers.
But we will answer questions like this.

Mr. C Mar 5th, 02, 08:02 PM So now I'm back to a retagged car! What a bummer.
