I have a customer that has a 68 RS/SS Camaro. It is a factory 350 4 speed, with a fold down rear seat. I was wondering if someone here could show me where to go, or could break down the VIN for me. I already decoded the 124378N351276 windshield VIN. Apparently there is another VIN that he retrieved from under the rear decklid. 1G48SZ478926S Any help would be appreciated! Im trying to find out approx how many were made with the fold down seat and this car's rarety.

TIA

How the 68 VIN breaks down:

1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
37 = coupe body
8 = 1968 model year
N = Norwood, OH assembly plant
351276 = vehicle serial number sequence

As for the other number he found, its no camaro VIN that I know of. Where di he find it and are there any pics of it??

There's no VIN in that spot.

There are PARTIAL VIN stampings up front though.... one can be seen under the cowl by looking through the grill slots. It's on the passenger side on top of the cowl. It should read N351276. A lot of the time it's impossible to see due to so much paint and\or dirt. If you remove the cowl panel, you may be able to verify it.

There will be an identical N351276 under the heater box on the firewall, right below the blower motor. You'll have to remove the box and blower to see it.

The CRG - Camaro Research Group has a lot of info on numbers and options. Check them out at: http://www.camaros.org/index.shtml

Good luck!
