I know that the cowl info offers little if any info on the 68, but I do know that it was a V-8, std black int. When I received the car, it had not motor/tran. The brake shows to be an auto. However there is a small, approx 4"x4" hole in the console that appears to have been enlarged on the driver side of the hump. The door panels are deluxe, but the seats are not. The radio area cover is woodgrain. The car did not have a factory console(no holes to mount). Multi leaf rear, 4 wheel drum brakes, finned drums, manual brakes, wide chrome trim on window and quarter window. Does this sound like anything?

Drum brakes rules it out as an SS.

Interesting.... I am looking at an RS/SS for sale. All the numbers match (engine, carb, manifold, transmission, and rear end). It is a 68 with a 350. I understood that all 350's were SS's in 68. It has power drum brakes. Are you SURE that drum brakes make it a fake SS? If so, I need to know soon. Thanks!!

I think the drums/SS question has been dicussed here before. If I remember correctly, 1969 SS had front disc.
I have a '68 SS396 with the protecto plate and have manual drums all the way around. In '67 and '68 drums were standard on a SS package. Disc brakes were an option on the '68, not sure about '67.

Discs were optional in '67, the only year they were available non-power. SS did not include discs '67-'68. My ordering info indicates that Chevy mandated power brakes on Camaro SS with 396 early in 1968.
