You didn't specify if you were looking for power or manual steering. Anyway, mine is manual with the following:
9
5679142
The "9" is cast above the 5679142 number.
Also there is a large "S" cast on top of the box. It also has an aluminum (not cast iron) access cover.

My numbers are the same for my manual steering box..5679142, off my 69 Z/28.
Is the "S" Saginaw?

Sorry, i forgot to specify it is power steering

All externals of the manual and power steering boxes were the same for many cars lines, many years. The internals did differ.
Almost impossible to tell what a given box originally came on.

If I have a 06A built 69 Z, what date coded power steering unit do I need to have to be correct? The one I pulled from my car was dated for 67 with a 67 pitman arm and I want to locate a 69 set up. Any suggestions?
