Jim, Here's the total decode for your car:
124379 = 69 Camaro V8 Coupe
L = Los Angeles built
503570 = Vin number built in October of 68

ST = Style
69 = 1969
12437 = Chev Camaro coupe
LOS = Los Angeles build plant
132062 = body build number (for the plant, not only Camaros)
TR = INTERIOR TRIM
715 = Blue standard Int.
69 69 PNT = Cortex Silver paint
08 = month and week built (I would think the "1" is hiding under the rivit and the "8" is a "B"
so, 10B would be 2nd week of October 68
6242 = build period. This is in the format "ANNN" where A is the letter of the build period and NNN is the number for your car during that build period.

It would be a C242 or G242. Steve or Kurt could tell you for sure. Sorry, but this number does not help with any options.

You would have to look for original parts (engine, trans, rear) to get some clues as to the original config (Z, SS, RS, BASE).

Silver with Blue int. sounds like a nice color combo.

appreciate all you did. Now for the stupid question what if the drivetrain isnt original because as you know the car is white with the black interior. It has the rear spoiler and cowl hood so does this mean it could be other than a base coupe? It had NO emblems at all when i bought it.A ny ideas?

G242 would be the "mystery code" for that body build time frame.

what do you mean mystery code?

One thing..I thought all trim tags had V8 designation. Even 6 cyls. Did he post the VIN? If so, I didn't see it...

It's not a mystery code. It is reffered to as the Work Order Code and it designates the order in which the body (firewall back) was scheduled to be built. G indicates the 7th working day of the month (which would typically be associated with a B week assembly date although there are exceptions). The 242 indicates it was the 242nd body to be built on that day. Now LA built cars other than Camaros in the same factory so it does not indicate the 242nd Camaro body built. If you have enough cars to compare you can figure out the actual date the car was scheduled to be built with this code and the build date code.

67panther, He posted his Vin on an earlier post. I just put it together for easier reading.

Jim, find all the numbers you can. If you don't know were to look, check back with us. Look for original clues on the ext color, under trunk rubber, inside doors, door jambs, etc. and you can look for the interior color too. It was either dyed or replaced. With a blue int, the dash would have been partially blue, plus the console (if you have one) would have been painted blue. So do some detective work http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif and post back here.

I will start looking Kevin. I am not sure where but whenever i come across a number ill write it down. One quick question with the car not having a grill emblem do i use an ss or bowtie emblem?

KevinW

Jim, it's you car and you will get advice either way. Whichever way you go, make sure you are consistant. Don't put SS in front and bowtie in back, things like that.

FYI, with SS emblems, to be correct, you have to get the SS fender emblems under "Camaro" and 350 or 396 engine emblems. With the Bowties, you just have the "Camaro" on the fender. And no 307 or 327 engine emblems with SS. You will get tagged with that right away. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

You will get grief either way. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

"Oh it's just a Bowtie" (Base) car"
or
"SS mmm, it it a real SS?"

Like the Bench Racing post says...

Jim, I always go to the Jackson outlets shops(great adventure) cruise/show. It's only to park you car and look and gab, no judging. I lot of fine cars show up there. I've seen any where from 50 cars (when it's lightly raining) to over 1000 cars on a warm summer night. It's the last friday of the month from May to Sept from 6:00 to 10:00. I usually get there around 5:00 to get a good parking spot. by 6:00 you are parking very far away (remember 1000 cars in a parking lot take up some space!)

I've met a couple of guys there.

I have got to fix my car soon or I will be missing the first show. Too much time spent on the internet and not spending time fixing the car! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

They do a cruise in Somerville on Thursday nights in the summer too. I never had a chance to make it to the Jackson outlet shows last summer. I still don't know if they'll let me in with my 93 Indy Pace Car. Maybe if they hear the supercharger they will.

67panther, I see one every day when I open my garage door! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
I have an original drivetrain 327/pg bowtie and proud of it! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif see sig

Jim, the local camaros (that get there early) are all parked on the first row where the cars come in and turn into the parking lot. Just look for a row of between 3-7 1st gen camaros. See ya there!

Jeff, You can crash it easy! We can sneak you in the side and just move the barriers. everybody does it!
