The block casting is 3970014, I can not find the casting date. I did look real good guys. The stamping is T1022HB It has a vin stamped next to the oil filter 19N?68954, The block has 014 over 11024 cast in the back on pass side....It is for sale locally from me so no shipping I have a deal worked out but I am not sure......crank number is 3932442 Date I 9 9 The heads are dated 7 2 9 and the intake is E 19 9. Owner claims it to be an original ss 350/300 turbo 350 but the vin does not match the car. The build date of the car is 06A of 1969.

Looks like a late 69 350/300hp engine. The partial VIN should fall in the 19N698XXX or 19N699XXX as it was built on Oct 22, 1969. This engine would have been in a car built 10D or later. Intake matches the cars build.

What are the casting numbers of the heads?
What is the casting number of the intake?

Take a better look at the casting date of the heads.

Jonesy thanks for helping out.

I got to give him this guy an answer tonight. The intake is # 3927184 and the heads are both 3947041 and the dates on the heads are both J 2 9 sorry about that. The heads and the intake were both unbolted on the engine.

Intake is a 350/255hp, 300hp intake and it was cast on May 19, 1969.

Heads match the engine block datewise and are the 350/300hp heads (cast Oct 2, 1969)

The HB code is 350/300hp with auto trans.

It's a decent engine if it's rebuildable.

I do not know if you are still out there but what do you think its worth?

I bought the starter and water pump in a package of used parts today. Here is the info on them if it helps Starter 1108367 9 C 18 Delco Remy USA with an 8 under it. Water pump 3963692 with a D N over E 3 1. Let me know what you think. The motor turns over freely had antifreeze in it, a slight ridge on the cylinder wall but not a nail grabber, greasy grimey but all there it looks like to me.

I bought a little more time on having to make my decision.

Thanks again

Interesting, according to what I had researched I thought the 3970014 block was used from 1970 - 1976. Not in the 69's.

This is based on info I found on the web at the Mortec Site, as well as two other camaro research sites.

Do you think this car is late enough in '69 to use this block? Or am I missing something in my info?

I agree the assembly stamp and vin correlate. I wish we new the casting date.

I'd be curious to know what blocks some other late '69's had as well in this same time frame.

I have other late cars in my database with this block casting.

The mortec site gives you an idea but has quite a few errors and would not consider it the gospel.

This time frame was during 1970 model year for other Chevys, it's just happens they made the Camaro into Nov.

Okay guys I got it graemlins/hurray.gif

Thanks for all the help.

I too was dumb founded because of the 1970 application of the block but the guy had the trim and vin tags and the vin matched the block it took more than one set of eyes but we figured it out. I did see the date code when we loaded it but all I saw was the J will post the rest by the weekend. It is loaded on my truck with the original turbo 350 Trans same vin stamping, sub frame, drive shaft, 12 bolt rear and disc brakes less one proportional valve, radiator hoses brackets etc even the antifreeze. He sold the carb to some one last month in Canada but basically I have the rest including wire loom brackets and such.

The story on the car this stuff came out of goes like this. The car was stored in a garage and the roof fell in on it. It had spent 18 years in the garage. When they tried to get the car out they put a chain around the rear end and ripped it off the car. Then they decided that they should move some of the fallen garage off of it before they tried again.

The guy I got this from started to part it out selling off the console and little stuff then he crushed the rest but kept most all the drive train.

I guess (lower) half of a car is better than none. lol
