Ok I pulled off the drives side header just now and I still cant seem to find that engine code.....Like I posted earlier..the block has been decked and I know there is not a code on the front of the engine....I am tired and blind and will look some more tommorow.... I am sure the motor is original but want to document everything in case I decide to sell it.. QUESTION, I have read that the heads have numbers underneath the valve covers... What info can I pull from there...ALSO.. where else can I get numbers ect.... By THE WAY I drove it today...O M G ....what a high revin tire spinning animal. Definitely nothing wrong with the motor or trans WOW Thanks guys...

Here is where I found it on my block.
Notice where the connector for the 4 speed z-bar is. The image is fuzzy, but if you look real close, you can almost make out what the stamping looks like.

You don't need to start a new post every time, just add to one of the earlier ones.
Like Bill explained, you're looking for the partial VIN, not an engine code. Can be very difficult to see it.
The engine cast date is on the top rear of the block.
The trans code is on the passenger side, stamped on the rear edge of the maincase.
The axle code is located on the passenger side axle tube. Look under 'Decoding' on the CRG website for a great sketch of the location. http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#RearAxleNumbers
What's the build date and NOR # from the tag?

the partial vin may not even be down on the oil boss, it could have been on the deck and then removed. I think the lower stamp was an alternate location? Skip

The Norwood plant VIN stamped engines on the RH pad until around 1/1/69 when it moved to the side of the block as shown in the photo. The Van Nuys plant alternated but most seem to be on top.
This being a late Norwood car the stamp should be on the side.

Finally some signs I was looking for.... As I stated earlier my VIN is 124379 N 693637 I (finally) found and code on the back of the motor next to the oil filter (thanks for all the pics and help guys) The number was:
19A 693637 . I am thinking this is the partial vin# because it does match the last 6 #'s in the VIN # from the dash. My trans # is 3857584
And my rear end # is C BU-0924G2. I am thinking now I can without a doubt say that I have the REAL DEAL, also in case you didnt read the earlier post the Trim Tab tells me X77 with D-80 (spoilers) What is the 19A in front of the partial vin # on the motor ?? The motor # that is suppose to be above the partial vin#...is it more visible or less visible ???? Havent seen it yet. Anyway...I am happy...my son helped me all day so after we bolted the header back on we took a "maniac ride".... Sideways in forth was fun.
Thanks guys for your help

I gotta say it again.... you sound like you're just having a BLAST!! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif Congrats on verifying the numbers.
Yes, the engine and car match as far as numbers go.
Enjoy!

That's the partial VIN. Take your VIN and take out the 2437 and that's what remains. The A is really an N. So it's original.
Again, the engine code is only on the front pad.
CBU0924G2 is 3.73 posi, built Sept 24th.
The trans code is on the passenger side, stamped on the rear edge of the maincase, partial VIN should be next to it. The # you posted is a casting #.
