Is there any way to find out the original options on a car without a a cowl plate. I have aquired my late father's car, and it is a 68 z/28 that has been heavily modified, blown 355, lots of bright work, custom interior and paint. A lot of the work is very dated(70's fender flares and crushed velvet interior) and I am considering putting the car closer to original, but not totally. I have the original motor that was in the car when he bought it. The code is VO224MO(302 I think) and the VIN matches. The total VIN is 124378N392753. Can anything else(paint and interior colors) be found? Luckily the body has not been hacked up too much other than the flares. The only thing really factory in the interior is the dash. Stillhas all original gauges in console and tic-toc-tach with 6000 redline.

The trim tag does not give you a lot of information about options. Build date, colors, and trim package is about it. Options such as PB,PS,guages,AC,etc will not be on it.

Kurt's right. There isn't much info on a '68 cowl tag. A build sheet or POP would be your ticket.

Motor looks right for that VIN. That's a key part. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

The trans code is on the passenger side, stamped on the rear edge of the maincase.
The axle code is located on the passenger side axle tube. Look under 'Decoding' on the CRG website for a great sketch of the location. http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#RearAxleNumbers

Thanks for the info. I think any build sheet would be long gone due to at least two interior redos. I know the 12 bolt is still there. It had a 4:11(I still have it) but was replaced with a 3:55 for drivability. The dash paint was a light blue, so I imagine the exterior was a blue of some sort. Were deck stripes part of a Z/28 package?
