View Full Version : New twist on SS with drum brakes ...?
click Aug 7th, 03, 12:08 PM Has anyone heard this story before? First time Ive ever come across it myself.
" According to the information I have GM went on strike just around that time at the PARTS DIVISION and if you had and early 1969 Camaro, which this vehicle is, there were several issues that may arise. One, the assembly plants could not get the 350 engines yet, thus the original matching numbers 327 motor in this Camaro, with matching numbers transmission amd rear end, so I'm told. Second, the assembly plants could not get the front disc braking systems either, so this 1969 Camaro SS has drum brakes both front and rear?? Now that that part is told, and as honestly as I know it,"
here is the car, nice looking ride too:

Anyone run across this situation before?
William Aug 7th, 03, 12:46 PM Absolute BS, it's not an SS and that is all there is to it.
Notice the date on the pics? Hows Jan 1998 for current? I'm sure it hasn't aged any in 5 years... Those power drums must be real rare without a booster too!!
That car would sell in a couple days around here, I wonder what goes through someones head when they write an ad like this?
Vintage 68 Aug 7th, 03, 02:12 PM I've never seen a TH350 trans equiped "SS" with a 10-bolt, thought all 350/350's got 12-bolt?
Saw the pic date DjD - wonder if "the bubble" has gotten bigger since then?
If you're gonna go to all that trouble to give it provenance why not just make it the only 69 Z-28 Convert built - you know, 'special rag version for the Indy 500 winner because he wanted a SB as BB's scared his wife'...
$hit I'd buy it for 12.5 then! (I know it hasn't reached reserve, but I have my reservations about this one.)
Jonesy Aug 7th, 03, 03:13 PM The key word in the description is: "so I'm told" I guess if you believe everything you hear is true, then it's gotta be true.
I guess the Norwood plant was fresh out of engines...hmmmm...... what about the rest of the cars built the same day as this one that are documented with 350's and are SS models. This claim is total BS to try to get more money for the car, just like the 2 previous owners.
1967 Panther Aug 8th, 03, 08:27 PM Ya, discs and the 350 weren't available yet, so the factory threw on the ZL-2 hood that wasn't even available yet to compromise! smile.gif
sudo1a67ss350 Aug 10th, 03, 05:44 PM The date on the pics could be because the guy forgot to change the date or the batteries went dead and did not change it.
Oramac68 Aug 10th, 03, 06:29 PM "so i'm told" yeah sure and "all the news thats fit to print"
click Aug 10th, 03, 07:36 PM someone must have emailed him, his notes are updated and he says 'some expert camaro people told me it is NOT an SS, but that wont change the price'. Buyers beware.
Joe Harrison Aug 11th, 03, 04:23 PM Ummm..........My 67 has an SS gas cap and grill emblem. Things I had sitting around so I put them on. I have alot of people tell me that they owned a 67 witha 327  so they must have made them  because so many people have owned them.
Now I will have a great come back after reading this guys load of hot steaming dog poop. I will just tell people it's a very rare SS that only got the badges because the factory workers would not have time to install the other ss options because they were building so many Camaros at the time. Funny thing they forgot everything but the emblems. Very rare car indeed, a must have add it to your collection Suspisous Sports (SS) now! graemlins/clonk.gif

MattBek Aug 12th, 03, 09:14 AM so I'm told
By stating that he can say whatever he wants. If he is caught in a lie he can say it was not his fault he was given wrong information.
mjs-13 Aug 14th, 03, 04:00 PM This is another one of those cases that you should beware as others have stated. Since he is an individual selling his own car (I am assuming it is titled to him and it is "his" car) the rules in court can change "should" this car sell, the buyer claim fraud and the case go to court for resolution. What I relate is a hypothetical situation.
As much as you may "hate" dealers, you have MUCH more recourse if this were a dealer selling a car such as this and they were not forthright with incorrect information you can prove they new or "should have known" as the dealer. A dealer is a "professional" in the eyes of the court. The standards for "professionals" have been held much higher in many fraud cases. Plus you usually have the State Motor Vehicle Commision, State Consumer Affairs, State Revenue department and the other state workers without anything to do involved.
If this is an individual selling the car and he totally misrepresents the car, all he has to claim is that this was a "casual sale" and "I am not a professional". Buyer beware! A private sale between two individuals. Your charge of fraud will be bounced out of court real quick. You might have a better case if you could prove he knowlingly purpatrated the fraud however that will be hard to prove. This assumes that the seller is selling this one vehicle and not repeatedly selling vehicles. Then the game will really change, dealer or no dealer!
There are still people who are ignorant concerning their old car as far condition and how originally equipped, BUT NOT MANY! Between all the car show know it alls and friends/ relatives, rarely do you find people who have at the very least have not been told the correct information they did not want to hear about their car.
Ebay can be a wonderful experience or a "Friday the 13th Nightmare". The more knowledgable the buyer, the better the experience.
Isn't that why this board exists, to educate all of us on our favorite, the Chevrolet Camaro?

Tom Weaver Aug 14th, 03, 07:37 PM I called about this car today. The guy is a very head strong, fast talker and avoided answering my questions. Claims he has restored many desirable 69's in the past and was an Auto body guy for 12 years, Yet he claims that this car is "rock solid and not a Bondo Buggy". Yeah,What-ever!!! He sent me pics today, if you like filled in seems with bondo, hiding rust for 13,500, then this is the car for you. Very Evasive seller.
1967 Panther Aug 14th, 03, 07:41 PM Well, at least it was nice of him to talk with you and send some pictures~~ tongue.gif
MattBek Aug 15th, 03, 04:30 PM I've seen him list at least 6 cars on the internet. He is one of those "home dealers".
Robber6910 Aug 15th, 03, 08:39 PM If anyone wants to see a real scam car dealership take a look at this link:

First off the guy uses different Ebay names to auction his cars (note the sellers name on this one). This guy owns two car dealerships in the Bronx. One is called TNTGOTCARS while the other has a total different name (and they both within three blocks of each other). He has close to a dozen classics sitting on the lot of one place and half a dozen in the other. He claims in this ad, he isn't sure if the car is a real SS as the car originally came with a V6 but it has the true markings of a SS. The VIN beings with 123379 (do ya think it's real at this point? Hmmmm I think not). If you are a real car dealer, you should have some working knowledge or done some homework on a car you are planning to put on your lot to sell. This guy currently has a bunch of classics on his lot ('70 Cuda AMA, '68 Impala convertible, two Vette's, '68 Cuda, and the list goes on). You can't tell me with a diverse lot of cars like this, you have no idea of classic cars. He has also sold several '69 Camaro's previously, one being a Pace Car. That car ended up in a Florida dealership no more than a month later and being auctioned on Ebay. I have seen some bad scams but this guy has got to be the worst yet.
