View Full Version : 69 Camaro info
Iam69 Feb 15th, 05, 07:35 AM Iam currently looking at purchasing a 69 Camaro
The vin # is 124379N695325
Tag # on cowl are
Body by Fisher
ST69 12437 NOR 136529 Body
TR 729 61-E Pnt
10A X11
The car is totally stripped ( no rust) and all the parts and pieces for the car are there except the windshield(broken).
The owner told me the
Engine is a 350
Trans automatic
Iam new to the chev family and was wandering if anyone can tell me how I can find out what the car had in it originally for an engine,transmission,what the car had for options and if it was a ss or rs car?
My boy and I are debating what to do with the car?
Do a restomod or do an original(If the car has the right features).
Any help would be appreciated in trying to find out any info on the vin and tag #.
Thanks for your time.(Great site)
Jerry
HwyStarJoe Feb 15th, 05, 09:36 AM 1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
37 = coupe body
9 = 1969 model year
N = Norwood, OH assembly plant
695325 = vehicle serial number sequence
Decode for body number: 136529
10A = Built the First week of October.
69-12437 = Coupe.
NOR = Built in Norwood Ohio.
729 = Custom Ivory Houndstooth Bucket Seats.

Could have been an SS350 car. Hard to tell without other documentation. If the engine is original, the VIN stamping on it should match the cars VIN. There will also be a set of numbers\letters stamped into the same pad that tell you when and where the engine was manufactured, and what it was built for.
Can you get any numbers off of it? There should be a casting number on the rear of the block, up top. And get the casting numbers of the cylinder heads also (remove valve covers, it's between the valves).
These links will help you locate them...... http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-camaro-decoding-help.asp

Also, if the cowl panel is removed from in front of the windshield, you should be able to find a very small partial VIN stamping of charactors that match the VIN tag that's on the dashboard. The stamping will be in front of the passenger side, right on top of the cowl. Also, there will be another stamping identical to that one under the heater motor hole on the front of the firewall (pass. side). All three should match each other.

Iam69 Mar 9th, 05, 01:00 PM I finally bought the 69 Camaro and in towing it home,I had 3 people ask me if the car was for sale. Iam now a Camaro fan and looking forward to the members and moderators for help.(Great site)
In response to HwyStarJoe question about the engine numbers, here is what I found.
Casting number
3970014
Engine code number
013Z455388
T036CKJ
Under the valve cover
the # GM 2 T
C21 73
888998
It was hard to read all the numbers, but if someone can tell me what the engine is by these numbers it would be greatly appreciated?
Thanks
Jerry
Barefoot Dave Mar 9th, 05, 02:59 PM The engine is a 1973 350 w/4 barrel carb and was originally attached to a Turbo 350 trans.
Hylton Mar 9th, 05, 06:03 PM Cool color combo graemlins/thumbsup.gif I know a lot of guys can't stand brown but I think it is just awesome with white interior and white vinyl roof.
DanCamm Mar 11th, 05, 12:48 AM I'm with Hylton, love that color combo. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Iam69 Mar 11th, 05, 05:20 AM I have a chance at buying a 302 DZ block standard bore for $750.00 from from a guy that said it came out of his old camaro he had at one time.I will be doing a restomod on my camaro and was wandering what you guys/gals think?
Should I rebuild the 350 engine from 73 or should I buy this 302 block and rebuild it?
What transmission will go with the 302?
I would prefer to to stay with a auto transmission( wife wants the camaro to drive).
This guy also has a 69 chev 427 cast 512 2 bolt main block for 750.00
Eric Kammerer Mar 11th, 05, 05:34 AM I would verify the DZ is real, then buy it and resell it to fund building the 350. ;)
bilodeaulynn Mar 11th, 05, 06:16 AM Ditto Eric. Don't use up an original DZ block on a non Z/28 car. Nothing wrong with a non Z, but if you are going to the trouble of getting a correct year block, might as well find one with the correct engine code. Lot more 350 blocks out there, than 302's, and cheaper too.
