Can someone confirm for me that "CE" stamped on the pad in front of the right cylinder head indicates a Warrantee engine?

"CE" is for Chevrolet Engine and is stamped on warranty and over the parts counter replacements. "CT" is Chevrolet Transmission with the same warranty or over the counter replacement meaning.

I have a April '70 010 block in my 69Z. It has the CE stamp, with a few numbers after it. Along the pan rail under the starter is a stamping of "5 70". Seems the original owner blew the first motor and the CE motor has lived on for 30+years. There is no VIN on the block anywhere. Some dealers stamped, some did not.

The CE prefix will be on all service engines (replacement parts), that is to say, all that came from a parts department. Not necessary a warrtny engine per say but a warranty engine would have the CE. No CE engines were installed on the assembly lines.

On another note, calling the engines is a misstatment, they often were just block assemblys, less heads, oil pan, water pump, distributor, flywheel etc. The CE was used for all; weather is was a short block (described) or a long block. It would have the CE prefix to show it was a service part.

Now, if the car was new and the engine failed there was a good chance that you would get a similar type part but as years go by these parts get phased out, part changes in design etc. So, a CE could be a generic replacement design to fit a wide range of applications.
