I have a Van Nuys build 1969 Z28 Camaro with the following cowl tag info.

The cowl tag info is as follows:

ST 69 12437 VN222929
TR 711 50 50
01B (or 11B) F368

It appears to be a wider and shorter trim tag than others I have seen and rivets almost right through the build date number. The build date could even be 11B for all I know since the rivet goes right through the first number ????????

So it seems it was a Van Nuys car with no X code. The dual exhaust hangar and 3/8 single fuel line on the car supports Z28.

Does this give me any clues as to what equipment the car had on it originally and could this car have actually been a Rally Sport from the factory. The car has some Rally Sport pieces still on it but a standard front end. Is there any way to determine what equipment this car should have at all??

Thanks

Hi abss, welcome to Team Camaro. My LOS built 69 has the rivet right thru the 1 in my 10d build date stamping. That was somewhat common, Ive seen lots of those clipped a little. The VanNuys (LOS) built cars did NOT have an x code similar to the Norwood built cars. There is a production line code that has yet to be 100% confirmed meaning but has something to do with the order in line the car was during a certain week, or something close to that. Some LOS cars ended up with an x and three numbers after it, but that is not the same X code as in Norwoods. Try running the search feature using works 'X codes' or other combinations of words as there are many many posts talking about the cowl plate info. Also hop over to www.camaros.org (http://www.camaros.org) and review all thier excellent data on the camaro.

My Z28 is a 03B Van Nuys car. The gas tank had never been out of the car and that is where I found the build sheet, somewhat common on Van Nuys cars. If your tank has never been out it would be a good place to start. Mine also has the rivet through the 0 in the build date.

I too got your email. Etiquette is to either ask or post, but asking multiple people and posting it is wasting people's time.......

The tag info is on the CRG site, http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#CowlTag, under Field B.

http://www.camaros.org/diffs69.shtml has more info for you.
Axle code is important.

Single fuel line and exhaust doubler plate could be a 307 or L65 car too.
