View Full Version : X-code, VIN and other questions
SuperSportx11 Dec 5th, 01, 09:50 AM Hey all you gearheads. I have a 69 with the x11 code, vin124379N------ . Car has all the SS badges, hood, wheels, 12 bolt, multileaf and drum brakes on all 4 and 350 engine badges. All indications say this is not an SS,the question is, Is it possible to verify SS status through the vin or any other means?
Were the SS interiors different? this car has SS steering wheel. no tach. blue highbacks.
Next question is: I am currently pondering selling the car and would like a proven method to determine this particular cars value. I have a ballpark of around 7.5K but would like to be sure im not selling it short. Email me if any questions. Thanks and happy rubber burning.
kz1000ltd Dec 5th, 01, 12:36 PM No other way to verify, unless of course you can find your buildsheet, and GM kept no records tracking such details, so your basically out of luck. You've looked for all the right clues, but if the car has drums all the way around, it couldn't be a true SS car, unless the front brakes were modified, or subframe swapped out. Really need to see some pics before determining value, but you're not too far off, as long as the car is rust free....IMHO....KZ

Sleepy-69 Dec 7th, 01, 01:56 PM Here's 15 items that 69 350 SS's had when they left the factory.
1) Front power disc brakes
2) 12-bolt rearend
3) 'Camel Hump' heads (probably 186 cast)
4) A brake proprtioning valve (or check
valve) mounted to the car's subframe
under the driver's seat.
5) Leaf springs with 5 leafs
6) Special hood with fake oil-cooler trim
(cowl hood was available for SS's mid-year, special order)
7) Hockey stick stripes on each front fender
8) If manual tranny, it had the larger
fylwheel (14 inch) and clutch (11 inch).
9) If manual tranny, it had a Hurst shifter
10) Quadrajet with big inline filter with
return vent
11) Special suspension (stiffer springs)
12) 14x7 inch wheels
13) X-11 or X-55 trim package
14) L-48 350 cid engine rated at 300 hp, and 380 ft/lbs torque (that's right, 380!)
15) Dual exhaust
From my own personal research (unscientific) it appears most if not all 69 SS's came with deluxe interior (RPO Z-87, I believe) which includes a trunk mat, hood insulation, and nicer ("comfort weave") interior upholstery and trim, (and don't forget the light added for the glovebox).
The 69 SS-350 was a great package. I love'em!

phel69 Dec 7th, 01, 03:17 PM Many SS cars had standard interior.Extra interior lights and trunk light were convience group package.Hood insulation was not part of deluxe interior option. My car has it with no deluxe package.

tracyracy Dec 7th, 01, 03:59 PM Can you supply the engine casting and code? What are the trim colors? All had disc. All had 12 bolt. All had multi. Not all had the 2 piece front to rear brake line with the check valve. The dual exhaust is a great way to tell if the car is an SS by looking for the welded dual exhaust threaded plate on the left rear frame rail.Did not need to be an SS though to have daul exhaust. Two fuel lines from the tank is a indicator. But not a sure thing either. All in all if you total it all up on one car your chances of having a real car are greater. I am interested in buying the right colored car. Have you decided? Also heads were 041 castings with a wedge mark on the front.
