Somebody told this guy that this block looks like a restamp. I don't know, it looks okay to me. Anybody see anything wrong with it?
I know he's not looking at the right casting numbers for the date code.

Mine don't look that nice and neat.

OK - I was wrong. After a re-look, mine do look very similar to those posted. My engine ID is similiar, the font for the VIN and relative location to the engine ID are almost identical.

I thought the build date/ application suffix should be on the left side, looking from the front, and the VIN should be on the right side. Aren't they reversed?

Guys, I'm not sure if this helps or not, but does Kurt or anyone have any info on where Camaro Prouction numbers were at that point. This block is 424366 and was built March 12th.

El Co;

Funny you should ask that - I was just trying to find my VIN Sequence to Production date list, must be at the shop. Does March engine assembly match the VIN Sequence?

The number impressions look okay to me - nothing way out of line and in the correct location with spacing normally used. There are many variations in placement to the edges on engines, but these look good to my eyes.
I blew up the block photo to look for signs of decking or machine work to remove the old stampings - don't see any signs that the block has been machined. The standard bore and lack of any machine marks would lead me to believe the block is as represented. If a block hasn't been bored why would it be decked anyway? If you go to that level of work a total overhaul would usually be the norm.
The block had been apart to the level of at least replacing the Intake Manifold or Gaskets - those little 'Dots' along the manifold end gasket areas are an 'old school' trick to keep the rubber gaskets in place while you tighten the intake in 'pre-silicone' days.

Hard to condemn it as a "restamp" - IMHO.

I would guess 424366 to be the first or second week of May. My car is 439xxx, and is 5C.

I know all B/B were engine code to the outside, and VIN to the inside.
When were s/b stamped the opposite?

When were s/b stamped the opposite? The confiquration shown - of the VIN to the 'outside' of the engine and Code to the 'inside' was the common stamping for Flint engines from the mid/late 60's untill the late 70's on the larger pad small blocks.
I've seen exceptions but this is normal.

424366 should be a late April car.

Last reported Norwood VIN for April was 425530.

I know of two Z28's within 1000 VIN's higher and lower than 424366, both have March dated MO engines.
