When I first signed up here after buying my car last September I had a decode done. I said my speedometer came out on the drivers side of the vehicle and was told that was the indicator that it was not a true SS. I kinda shrugged my shoulders and figured it was just a nicely done clone and I was not going to change it to be "correct". Now in reading the post from Z28fan and seeing the link that MarkC provided
http://www.67z28.com/project/images/ImageMap.html
I looked at my car again and I have a one inch hole exactly where that picture is and a hole right next to it for the speedo clip. Right now it is being used for the oil pressure line and the water temp line with no grommet. Could someone have rerouted the speedo cable when they changed out engines? Is that hole above the throttle linkage even drilled in a non SS car? I guess it is not real important to me as I don't plan on selling the car and the drive train is not matching anyways but when I saw that picture it really got me thinking.
Thanks
Scott

I "think" SS cars have 2 holes from the factory with one hole being added for SS on the passenger side and the other standard hole on the drivers side would get a caplug. DO NOT quote me on this! graemlins/clonk.gif A car could have been re-assembled using the other hole but who knows?

Someone back me up or just push me off

Yes, that is the question. From the drawing in the link it appears there is a capped off hole on the drivers side of the firewall. My main question is there a hole drilled into the firewall above the throttle linkage on all 67 cars and a grommet plug installed.

No, the 1" hole above the throttle pedal pivot is only drilled by the factory on a 4 speed car that originally had a Muncie Transmission. Only SS's and Z28's used a Muncie 4 speed, all others used a Saginaw which routes the speedometer through the "normal" hole below and to the left (drivers perspective) of the steering column. All Automatic Transmissioned including big block cars with a TH400 use the "normal" speedometer hole. The "normal" hole is then plugged with a plastic cap at the factory as they are in all cars.

If your car was originally a 4 speed and the hole above the throttle pedal is factory drilled it should be an SS.

Scott,
Sorry for the confusion. It sounds like your car is an SS also. I guess I should start using the link that Mark provided for questions on 2L 4P cars.
As Mark said, Only SS cars with a 4-speed and Z28 cars have two holes. The standard hole on the drivers side is always there and plugged if not used.

Thanks for clearing that up. As I said before it really would never be an issue to me unless I tried to sell it some day and would have had to list it as a SS clone. I saved that link also because it has perfect pictures of the differences.
