Stampted vertically foreward of tailhousing-
19N68*78
same place, partially overlaped-
9H30A
cast further foreward-
4 6

*=void/defect??
2 rings on input shaft

Thanks for any and all help

You posted a partial VIN from the trans which is a '69 VIN, does this match your car's VIN?

The trans looks like an M-20 wide ratio (2.52 1st gear) Was thinking the Z's only got the close ratio M-21 and optional M-22, but I'm not positive.

The build assembly date of the trans (9H30A) sure it's not P9H30A??

P= muncie
9 = 1969 model year
H30 = August 30th, 1968
A= M-20, B= M-21, C = M-22

2 rings on the input shaft is also an M-20

Including the * in the partial vin on the trans you are also missing a digit. There should be six digits after the 19N and you only show five including the *. What is the vin of your car? Does this number correspond with it besides the * and missing digit? Comparing that number with the vin will help determine of its original. Either way you are missing a digit and this is the most important number to match. With the date of the trans being August 30th whats your cowl tag info. There is a date code that should look something like 09B

Looks right. It matches your protect-o-plate and it looks to match your VIN (9N687273), assuming the last digit is a 3 instead of an 8.

It's a M20. Z's could get M20, M21, or M22. M20 is the better trans with your 3.73 rearend.

well, the reason the stamped nimbers may have been missing digits was because they were overlapped. my vin # is 124379N687273
