I would like to know if anyone has ever tried to track down past owners of there camaro?. I want to locate the person that owned my car in the mid 90's that restored my car. I have tried to contact the DMV they were not much help. I have the plate number of when this person owned this car and I know were he sold it. The easiest way is to track back one owner at a time. Surely the person you bought it from will know who he bought it from etc..
The DMV is useless in this type of search, as they cannot legally give out the information. But, if you happen to know anyone who works there, or know any police officers, you can usually get the information.
Good luck.

My car was bought at an auction some time ago before I got it so I do not know who had mine either but I did find an insurance slip with the name Mark Martin and it was registered in Kansas in 91.

In California, you fill out a form, and supply stamped envelopes that they mail out letters to all the previous owners telling them that they are releasing their past addresses to the current owner.
They give you the car's complete owner history, names and addresses.
You might try here I'm not shure how much info they would provide. http://wsf.carfax.com/cfm/purchase_options.cfm?partner=WDI_1
