: 1968 Chevy II Baldwin Motion Nova
Dan Palchanes Mar 14th, 01, 02:02 PM I just bought a 68 big block car from Pa.It's is an original ss and comes with the following options A01,A51,C08,D55,U80,ZJ1,ZJ2 and factory 4spd.It's a three owner car as verified by DMV of Pa. and the title I have is dated 1975.Build date on cowel tag is 07A.Car has some indication that it could be a 68 Motion car.I would like to talk with someone that has knowledge of these 68 Novas or knows someone who has one. Thanks Dan

70 RS/Z-28 Mar 15th, 01, 04:26 PM Dan, what on the car leads you to think it could be a motion car?
Dan Palchanes Mar 15th, 01, 06:46 PM original fenders had holes drilled for some type of badging behind front wheels and rear trunk had winged spoiler. Also car is highly option for a Nova which I've been told was also a indication. Car had also stripeing on back. The stripeing, badgeing and wing spoiler are things that came out in conversation when I asked him to explain exactly what this car looked like back in 1975 when he first bought it.
70 RS/Z-28 Mar 16th, 01, 12:42 AM These questions seem to come up every month or so and I can't recall anyone's car turning out to be a long lost BM, but maybe you'll be the needle in the Haystack.
As a first step you need to find out which dealership originally sold the car. If you know the prior owners then no problem. If not, if you know a friendly police officer he can do a NICB search that will tell you the oriingal selling dealership and what day it was shipped there from the plant. If this confirms it was sold by Baldwin Chevrolet, then it might be worth the $1,500 for a yes or no answer from Joel Rosen. I don't think lots of options are an indication of it being a BM car, in fact I would say just the opposite. Was this car an original L-78 (396-375hp)? If not, VERY unlikely it is a BM. Another item to check on the car is whether the rear axle tubes are rewelded to the center pumpkin and to the spring pads, this was part of the standard phase III suspension mods. Also check the trunk for evidence of the dual electric fuel pumps. There should be good size holes in the trunk where the fuel line came into and out of the trunk to attach to the pumps. Ultimately, w/out paperwork, you will need to go through Joel and pay the $$'s, but the items I mentioned should help you to determine if it would be money well spent. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Dan Palchanes Mar 16th, 01, 05:08 PM I differ on the part about options.Check out Kevin Suydams 69 Motion Camaro and article on Phase III SS 427 Nova in ChevyII Nova & SS Muscle Portfolio 1962-1974 by Brookland Books for Motion cars with a lot of options to name a few.By the way the car has no power steering and brakes.Car also has tow tabs below front bumper.I will check axle tubes and perches on car this weekend where it is being stored.
zgator Mar 17th, 01, 01:47 AM Wouldn't disc brakes be standard on a BM car?

Dan Palchanes Mar 17th, 01, 03:58 AM !968 was a very unusual year since the dash is 1year only ,it says Chevy II Nova,396 cars weren't built until mid year and these 396 cars were usaully ordered with no power steering and no power brakes.I no two documemted cars that are just like that.By the way you could get power drums in 68,so as BM coverting to power disc in !968 I don't know.I have been told that guys back then wanted drums because of less drag on front wheels and no power steering on motor since this takes away horse power, god know's you need every hp in very Lethal cars. Thanks everybody for responding, Dan Palchanes
JOE58 Mar 18th, 01, 03:08 PM The Motion cars will sometimes have drilled holes for the Phase III ingition box on inner fender. May also be holes for Impala SS427 emblems or extra holes for side pipes. I never saw a 1968 Motion car with a rear wing but some of the 69 Camaros recieved a big three post rear wing.
Dan Palchanes Mar 23rd, 01, 01:12 PM I just scraped the top of engine fire wall where wiper arm cover is and noticed 3 numbers and a letter stamped there and also 3 numbers barely visible hand written in red.Notice white overspray equal distance in that area, could possibly be some sort of stripeing. It was on top of the original Seqouia green paint.By the way I check another 68 Nova ss 396 car that is documented and original and there is no stamped #'s and letters in that area. Also no #'s written in red.PLease if you have any imfo I would greatly appreciate it.
